    Superman vs. Muhammad Ali REPRINTED!

It's official, Superman vs. Muhammad Ali Special Edition is seeing a new printing. On the DCU Blog The Source, it was announced today that the Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams collaboration will have not one but two new editions in Fall 2010. Both are hardcover reprints. The Deluxe Edition will include an "expanded sketch section" plus an all-new cover drawn by Neal Adams. The other will be a hardback version of the original book, printed in the same trim-size as the 1978 classic.

Cool! I've yet to snag one of these and have always wanted to read it.....

The book is beautiful. Adams' rendeition of Metriopolis while Lois, Jimmy and Clark walk down the street is fantastic.

      Love the cover.

I think Adams did a homage of it for ESPN The magazine a few years ago or maybe it was SI. My copy is beat up and worn out. I think this was the first story where I read abou the difference between a yellow and red sun in the DCU

Still have th eone Mom got me many years ago. It was completely suubmerged under water in the spring when we had the flood but I put it by my wood stove and I think it will be mostly ok. A bit warped though. It is one of my all time favorite comics.

I've always wanted this. Now, if I don't find a good deal on an original, I'll snag that one if it's not overpriced. Neal Adam rules.

When I did my interview with Joe Kubert for admission into his School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, he head original pages from this in his office. It was all I could do to keep from geeking out!
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

I have the Whitman edition but never got around to picking up the DC one. Good, maybe this will bring the prices down on the originals and I'll snag one.

I've still got my original stored away. The story isn't bad and the Adams artwork is killer!

I got an original a couple of weeks ago at a toy show.

'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

While we are on the subject...I took my niece to a couple of comic shops this week and I wondered around while she spent a considerable amount of time thumbing through the Treasury Comics. She was as mesmerized by them as I was at her age. What a great format and I wish like hell times were that they were as readily available and as easily appreciated as they were when we were kids.

I have a photo somewhere from back in the day. It was published in a small town newspaper in Western Oklahoma. I had recently moved to another town and as a class project, my former classmates bought me a copy of this Treasury Comic (one of the Shazam! ones). They packaged, addressed, and mailed it personally.
                      treasurycomics.com

It was sent to my new address 60 miles down the road to the town where I finished school.

In a twist of fate, the publisher of the first town's newspaper was the brother of the publisher of the second hometown newspaper. I wound up working for the second Brother years later (my Dad was friends with both of them) and a simple relating of the story got me the original photograph, years later, of my friend, Mike Henry, handing the packed item for shipping to little 7 year old me, who was completely surprised and thrilled by the gift.

So, I have the comic, and a picture of my little buddy mailing it to me.

The Treasury comics were cool. I had a pile when I was a kid. I have several in my current collection, but that size is a pain to store. I'm all for the reprint on the Ali Superman. Go Neal Adams, Go!

Used to have it, but I'm not sure if I still do or if I sold it at some point.
