    Catman (Batman foe)

When was Catman reintroduced in the '70s/'80s?

I found Google pix of him in the '60s wearing cowl w/ nose, and 80s/recent art w/ DD-Cap A.-type noseless cowl.

I'm wondering what art Mego might have referenced for a later WGSH wave...

    Thanks!

As far as I can remember, Catman was MIA from the early sixties until around 1980-81 when he showed up in a story or two, and then he wore the mask without nosepiece.

Batman 322 (1980) is, I think, his first modern era appearance. The next being Batman 371 (1984, below)

Thanks! I have that '84 issue. I just wasn't sure if he had appeared in the interim...

You guys are a great resource.

I'm doing a Catman figure myself...but I'm taking him far away from the established DC version, which was created to keep anybody from reviving the Holyoke version from the 1940's (AC comics revived that character, as has the super Powers comic series).

Anyways, digging through my collection I found an ongoing storyline with him that starts in Batman 322 and runs to 324, and Detective 509. He wears the newer mask version in these stories probably because Catwoman tore his original mask...leaving him with a partially scarred face that the current version doesnt seem to have anymore.

Doing some snooping, I found the character also popped up in an issue (#10)of Freedom Fighters in 1977, which would be the one most likely to influence a Mego figure I would think.

Cool..the 1950's Australian version of the character. Do you have any pictures of your custom you can post?

This is the only one I can find at the moment, sorry it's crappy.

This was one of my earliest customs, back in the day when I used toothpicks and fabric paint...sure made it tough for myself.

The cowl is removable (what was left of a Batman one after the dog got it). I will take some more pics if you are interested in seeing.

So, on the Aussie Catman those are goggles on his mask?

Yes...the crappy picture of the comic above is from Ebay. I will try to find a better one.

I would love to see this '77 appearance if you can post it--I only have the '84 stuff.
