D&D Comic Book ads in the early 80s

I was reading through a Facsimile edition of a comic from 1982 and came across this...

I so loved these comic style ads for Dungeons & Dragons when I was a kid. I got super excited when a new ad appeared continuing the story, and was ultimately disappointed the ad campaign ended and story was never finished.

Art was by Bill Willingham for all but the 1st ad, but I am not sure who wrote/scripted them. Willingham did a lot of art for TSR in the early 80s and went on to a career in comics.

I so would have gotten a D&D comic in this style if one was published at that time. I still wish these ads would be collected somewhere in print, with maybe a final chapter done to finish the story.

    Sigh, memories.

I remember these ads. Didn't know Willingham did the art. He did Fables. I also know him from the Shadowpact series around 2006.

Willingham did a lot of art for TSR back in the 80s before he broke into comics with his creator-owned Elementals series.

I mainly remember seeing this specific ad in the comics. I remember drawing the warrior from panel 2 a lot in school. And actually a few years back I was going to recreate some of the pages in an updated style but I couldn't figure out how exactly to go about the lower right portion of the page. And I figured hardly anyone remembered the ads anyway.
I also was going to draw a satire of Captain O but abandoned for the same reasons.

          That's cool.

          I should have collected those.

          I think that I only had one D & D comic book.
