Mostly because WB's film arm won't let him. They still plan on re-relaunching the Supes film franchise at some point, so they think a Superman on TV will spoil the "surprise".

And if the rumors are true, Welling doesn't want to wear the suit, but I've never actually seen that confirmed by anyone. Heck, he's got a "costume" now.

I think the current season is season 9. I just bought seasons 6-8 on DVD last week for $9.99 a piece at Best Buy.

I believe Smallville comes back from it's break Jan 22, the actual 2 part JSA movie is supposed to air on Feb 5th. Can not wait!!!
