    Superman Returns June 28, 2006

    20260628_213255.jpg
Superman returns to Earth after spending five years in space examining his homeworld Krypton. But he finds things have changed while he was gone, and he must once again prove himself important to the world.

Now I listed to the audio book of this version of Superman movie and the big difference was the kid showed his supper stretch by pushing the piano.

This was to be an extended version of Christopher Reeve's movies but the audience found it boring and not enough action.

I liked the movie and the figures were nice. The extended characters were nice but strangely looking.

I liked Routh in the role, and the plane rescue scene is still one of the best Superman/super hero fist-pumping moments in all of cinema. I have a fondness for the film, but as much as I love the Reeve films (and I very much do, the original is my favorite all-time movie) it was pretty-wrong headed to make this a sequel, and give them a super-son. Especially if you think about how Superman erased Lois' knowlege of his identity and their having sex at the end of Superman II.

I'm so glad Routh got to "return" again in the CW Crisis crossover in that boss Kingdom Come suit. He really shined there, and proved he would have made a GREAT cinematic Superman.

I liked pretty much everything about this movie, although I thought it was a bit slow for what people wanted (Superman punching giant robots) until the 3rd act twist with the Superboy nonsense. There was an audible groan in the theater I was in when that happened. I could kinda see the writing on the wall then.

It was one of those movies that actually didn't completely bomb, but the creative was so underwhelming that the studio nixed future films.

Still better than Man of Steel though.

I wanted to love this movie so much and I was excited when it came out. The merch was great (before Hot Toys became exorbitant, I was able to get a Superman Routh figure and I still have the 30" Mattel figure in the attic) and I thought Routh was great, but the movie's pace was slow, it kind of fell flat with the plot, and the Super-Kid thing was bad. I would love to have seen the results if they made a standalone movie instead of trying to extend the Reeve movies, but I will admit, as odd as I thought that was, it also added to my excitement of seeing the movie.

It is a slow paced movie, I enjoyed it nonetheless. The continuation formula was a gambit but it didn't pay off.

Why is it so hard for to get an amazing Superman film.

          The last one was Meh...
