My Memorial Day Weekend reading material-just came out this past week...

I'm just a few stories in, but they've been great so far. I'm a huge fan of these DC Finest Collections. I've gotten every one so far, but I am a bit behind in my reading...

I'm curious when Rock becomes the actual name of the soldier, in the earliest stories it's just a nickname for hi, used by his troops.

According to Wikipedia, the appearance in GI Combat 68 was a"prototype" appearance where he's only referred to as the "Rock" (long before Dwayne Johnson). In GI Combat 81, he's called SGT Rocky (long before Stallone), but by 83, he's formalized as SGT Rock. Always was more of an Unknown Soldier fan myself , but some of the Rock stories were good. He also went on to become Luthor's chairman of the joint chiefs in the early 2000s.
