I enjoyed the film far more than I expected, based on the characterization from the source comic, as I tend to think Tom King just rewrites characters to fit his stories. I wasn't too keen on "drunken Kara" in Superman (2025), but it works far better in this new universe than dumped into the ongoing DC continuity (such as it is). I was also surprised how much I liked it based on not only critical reaction, but the kind of "meh" reaction a lot of my friends, who's opinions usually jibe often with my own, had about it.

I really only had a few minor niggles about it. I didn't love it like last year's Superman, but I'm not as big of a Supergirl fan either. Alcock was great, Momoa was fun, and everyone else did an admirable job. Yes, it is basically True Grit in space, but so is the comic, so I knew that going in. The universe building aspect was also fun. A good time at the movies.

Havent watched the movie yet but never had a problem with a good action film when a woman was the central character.

All valid points, and all of that probably did contribute to the low opening weekend returns.

But also, based on the dismal performance of MOTU and even Mando and Grogu and Disclosure Day in theaters, Cinema may be seeing a shift from big action blockbusters putting butts in seats. With Obsession and Backrooms, low-budget movies made by novice YouTubers making their budget back 10 fold, I think we're seeing a paradigm shift. Hollywood just hasn't caught up yet. Kind of like the late 60s/early 70s when the big spectacle movies started flopping, and low-budget, gritty independents took over.

I saw the movie on Tuesday night and yes, I thought it was a good show. It definitely seems more of like of a side movie (away from the main DC universe) if you know what I mean? Also, it is much more of a space movie than superhero movie. Half the time I thought I was watching a Star Wars film (lots of borrowed ideas/scenes from that franchise I think) with also a bit of Mad Max. Overall, I really did like the movie. Milly did a great job and I have no idea why anyone would find her unattractive!
