So not a comic but comic adjacent acquisition. This one has been a white whale for some time.
About 10 years ago, I discovered there was a trilogy of Micronauts prose novels called the Time Traveler Trilogy written by Steve Lyons based on the continuity of the Image Comics 2002 Micronauts series, and repurposing some of the Linser covert art of Karza from the comics for the first novel's cover.
I found volume 1 at a Half Price Books for a couple of bucks, read it, enjoyed it, and set out to find the rest. I found volume 3 about a year later at a random toy con for about $10. A bit more than I waned to pay, but not unreasonable and in line for what Vol. 3 was going for online.
Volume 2 however was the issue. I never saw one in the wild. Looking on ebay, most copies were listing for between $50 and $75. Not selling, but listed, and no way was I going to pay that. Amazon sellers had similar prices. About 7 years ago, I saw an Amazon seller list one for about $5 plus shipping and jumped on it. They sent me a Nora Roberts novel instead and I had to fight to get the refund since it was a 3rd party seller, who wanted me to pay to ship it back at my expense, and it turns out they never had the book, the listing was a copy and paste error on their part. I set a watched search for it on ebay and not once in the last 8 years had a copy been listed for under $50.
On a lark after organizing my books and looking at vol. 1 and 3 and trying to decide if it was worth keeping them or time to move on, I did an Amazon search and found 2 copies-one listed at $125 plus shipping and one listed at $7 plus shipping. Hesitant after the previous bas experience with an Amazon seller, I added it to my cart but waited a day before pulling the trigger, choosing to sleep on it before doing so. In the morning, I made the purchase, and it arrived today in the mail. The actual book, intact, in good shape and complete. It took 10 years, but I finally have the complete trilogy.
