I saw it this afternoon. Gunn did a great job and was a fun theatre experience. I liked how it was bright and colorful. Forgot about sticking around though for the post credit scenes.9

Watched to movie yesterday night with the wife, I enjoyed the movie very much. Nice new reboot with a short origin and lots of JL members involved for a new DCU.

My wife that does not follow my hobby but likes the Marvels ( up to phase 4) and the DC films, sz she prefers Henry in the role and liked the previous ones better ( She has no clue who Zack Snyder is ) . Said that the new Superman came across as a little stupid-dumb not only as Clark but as Superman as well.

I asked if she would see it again with me, No.

Taste is out there for every one, I will be seeing it again shortly.

We went to see it Monday. It was the most fun I've had at the movies since the first Guardians of the Galaxy. Even my wife, who tolerates my nerdom and goes with me to most comic book movies (mainly for the popcorn) leaned over about halfway through and said "This is a really good movie"!

Why are we stuck on Superman Robots with capes. The original Superbots looked just like Sups.
    OIP (3) (25).jpg

Then as time came the Superbots were helping around the world where Supes could be everywhere.
    OIP (3) (24).jpg

Then in All Stars they looked more like Terminator

They give Kal-El a since of being around Kryptonians.

I mean why does the dog wear a cape for that matter? Hell, why does Superman wear a cape? I mean, you could make a lot of arguments in a variety of ways but it's just a silly little comic thing. And frankly, I kind of find it funny that Superman just puts capes on everything. His robots, his dog, a potted plant in the corner. It's amusing.

I quite enjoyed the movie. I do wish there was a BIT more Superman. I appreciate they depowered him a bit, but I would have liked maybe 10-15 more minutes earlier to help set up his super heroics, but that's a minor complaint. All these superhero movies are like 3 and a half hours these days but it felt like this one should have been just a touch longer for that reason. I don't think he was able to develop as much as I'd like, but it wasn't completely absent.

The "twists" were unique enough and didn't make me groan or anything, but nothing entirely made me go crazy with excitement. It had some silly dumb moments, but that's true to the source material. I didn't think it went out of its way to do zany stuff just for the sake of it.

I'd still love a retro 1950s style Superman movie and maybe the success of FF will mean someone will do that eventually, but I generally trust James Gunn to do solid stuff.

As a teenager in the 1980s, my 2nd favorite comic book was "The Badger," a veteran of the Vietnam War who had multiple personality disorder as a result, and who was also a martial arts expert who could talk to animals, "like Dr. Doolittle." The character was so compelling to me because, at times, he was over-the-top nuts, and at other times was incredibly sympathetic and vulnerable because of his past. To me, James Gunn's Peacemaker is the modern-day equivalent of the Badger...

Yes, but does the story explain why they wear capes?

Does anyone else feel like Mr. Terrific was a bit of a Batman proxy?

Now that you mention it, yes, and maybe a bit of METRON, too. As he did that Chair sitting flight routine. The whole Billionaire masked crimefighter detective.

Jimmy Olsen has been the opposite of Clark Kent, he has been the ladies man. Basically he DC Comics version of Captain Kirk, Jimmy has dates every type of female.

Yeah, but to me he was always a GOOF. When I watch Superman on TV (50's) he is always just getting in trouble and a bit of a pest. Too big for his Britches! Ask Perry White or George Starr! I do remember one cover (Jimmy Olsen or Superman Family) where he was going into the future as Elastic Lad to join the Legion and he is bidding LUCY LANE good bye and she is Bawling for him to stay!

    Good Ole Silver Age drama!

Season 1 of Peacemaker hugely surprised me by being, in my personal opinion, phenomenal. I have never been a wrestling fan and knew nothing about John Cena. But I thought he was absolutely great in this role. It's a more complex and layered character than the Charlton version with which I was familiar. (I knew that DC had once published a Peacemaker mini series in the late 1980s-ish. But I never read that.) I liked the show so much that I DVR'd an episode when I saw that it was being re-run now on TBS. I still enjoyed it. But there have been a lot of edits for content and language. So if you have access to the original on streaming, my personal view is that the original is substantially better.

Regarding the dozen people in the cinema, my personal view is that there are three things impacting that: (1) very few movies these days make big money at the Box Office because so many people simply wait to see films much more cheaply, just a few weeks or months later, at home via PPV or streaming, and (2) super hero film fatigue generally, and (3) a very serious drag on the DC and Superman brand among the general public because the last several DC super hero films bombed and were critically panned. I have an 18-year-old daughter. I use her and her friends as a barometer of what films are breaking through with the younger audiences that Hollywood prefers. She saw Minecraft three times, with three different sets of friends. She hasn't said one word about the Superman film.

I have no idea what Minecraft is or Fortnite or most things that youngsters do. I also think the reason there were 12 people was it was a LASER Film, so you needed glasses. And I didn't pay for the ticket, a friend did and couldn't go and gave it to me and it was for 10:00AM Saturday morning and typical, I did not need to work that day, so I said; "Okay".

Maybe people were too hung over or partied out?

When I have time this week I will try to watch Peacemaker.

Don't ask me how, but somehow I got roped into going to see the flick today instead of this coming Tuesday. And Like most reviews, it was sensational. But...

Why the need for Robots to have Capes????

That seemed a bit weird, if I built a robot, I would NOT give it a cape, Would the 'Bot feel the need for one? Arrogance? Purpose?
Asimov's rules??? maybe a Kryptonian thing?

Anyway, to address some of the comments made here.

"Silly film" Um, yeah and no. there were parts that were silly, JImmy Olsen seems to have a rep and a rapport with the ladies!?!?!

"politicized" Well after the "interrogation scene" it deserves that honor in it's favor. Well done, James.

filmed on an iphone; Henry Braham is the Director of Cinematography. He knows his craft.

Ma and Pa Kent. I think their accents were a bit over the top, but, the fact that they were in the film and still ALIVE does count a lot, And for Kal-El/Clark that makes all the difference in the world.

And in regards to the old saying; "you can pick you're friends, but you CAN'T PICK YOU'RE FAMLY" well, at the end of the film, we get that in effect and what it leads too?

The "Justice Gang" are really the TERRIFICS. Same outfits, different members. Substitute: Plastic man, Phantom Girl and now you have Metamorpho.
That one battle at Night, with _______, was kind of knicked from an issue of WORLD'S FINEST. From the 60's. I recognized the villain.

Krypto. Um... a Kryptonian canine. I am not gonna argue why he acted the way he did, as a fan of the Legion of Super-PETS, I always preferred: Comet & Beppo, then Streaky, and Krypto last. PROTY II was not a pet, he was an intelligent being!!! But Krypto, he added some comedy and he is a huge part of the legend, so it is what it is.

I am surprised Geoff Johns is not listed. He had a huge part in the Mythology of all this.

Doesn't Luthor look just like GRANT MORRISON? BWAHAHAHA!!

So where do we go from here? Well, TBS is now showing episodes of the Peacemaker and I am gonna check it out, don't like the lead actor if you wanna call him an "actor"
Maybe I will get to hear them talk about Bat-Mite!?!!! James is gonna have his hands filled, and of course Fantastic Four is around the corner. And surprisingly there were ONLY 12 people in the cinema, including me. That seemed a bit weird as I would think it would have been packed!?!

    Ramifications? Here we go:

According to the Wall Street Journal, Warner Bros. reportedly canceled Ta-Nehisi Coates and J.J. Abrams' Black Superman film because it was "too woke."

    but the BIGGEST ONE:
DC Comics plans for their 100th Anniversary in 2035, as they lose rights to Batman and Superman, for this year's San Diego Comic-Con booth

I know Mr. Donner, Chris and George Reeves are proud of this film!! As a Troma-mite I am proud of James, he did great and he will continue to do great. Truth, Justice and a Better Tomorrow. We ALL need it.

    Cheers.

The robots with capes...i believe at one point in the comics the robots were actually replicas of superman. So that might be where the capes come from. Ditto for Jimmy as an unwitting ladies man. That felt likel Will Ferrell's character in The Other Guys lol but, its probably some kind of trope as well.
His parents accents were so strong and it instantly made me wonder why Clark had no trace of an accent.

Does anyone else feel like Mr. Terrific was a bit of a Batman proxy?
