    X-Men Mutant Massacre

I'm not quite sure how it holds up now, but I was just thinking about Crossovers that really had a lasting impact on the titles involved and this one came to mind.

In many ways it did signal an end of an era for the X-Men as the All New All Different Bronze Age team got split with Colossus, Nightcrawler and Kitty heading over to Excaliber. Even though the Longshot/Dazzler line-up was kind of the X-Men's JLA Detroit, you did have Havok returning and Psylocke. Angel becomes Archangel. Wolverine takes on Sabretooth for the first time, giving him an iconic archenemy of his own. Mr Sinister debuts as the Big Bad on this and goes on to become an A-List X-Villain. They even retcon Gambit into it as his first X-Men encounter.

They should have massacred more of them.

The best part of Acts of Vengeance was West Coast AVengers. I enjoyed them finally exploring the Magneto connection and Dark Scarlet Witch angle on her reality warping powers, which eventually led to Disassembled and House of M.

Although Doom Vs Punisher was kind of fun as well.

I'd rate Acts of Vengeance much higher than Atlantis Attacks.

            *ahem* Damage Control....

Yeah; but that's not saying too much. A friend of mine sees "Inferno" as the beginning fo the whole super-mega-wonderful crossover thing, and sees that pattern as being really bad overall. It set the stage for non-events and gratuitous "shock value" resets. I kinda saw "Mutant Masssacre" as that sort of thing. Packaging stuff that a few years later could have happened in the books without any sort of fanfare.

....although it was still better than "The X-Cutioner's Song."

I forgot they spin out of Acts of Vengeance! I stand corrected.

The bad guys that Loki puts together for Acts of Vengeance could be a precursor for Dark Reign's Cabal. With that and Dark Scarlet Witch, this crossover probably influenced Bendis a great deal.

That Silvestri art just about forced me to give up on the Xbooks then, it was so bland.
