RDJ as Dr. Doom in the next Avengers Movie

I'm sure most have seen the reveal from SDCC last night.

    What's the thought on this?

Seems like this is the Avengers movies, but the F4 will be a period piece, so maybe a different Doom there? Or they will do a time jump?

Following the news he'll return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom, Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. has shared some photos teasing his villainous transformation alongside a cryptic message.

I think this is a terrible idea. Just a really bad choice.

I am at a lost as to why RDJ who in the MCU is Tony Stark/Iron Man is now cast as Dr. Doom. Guess we wait till D23 to get more answers.

Well you don’t see Doom’s face generally. And RDJ is used to metal masks so there’s that

I’m looking forward to him in the role of John Henry Irons in Steel

I don't feel they the characters will address the fact that it's the same person, as it I doubt it will be Tony Stark now as Doom, even in an alternate universe.

I think Disney was scrambling to patch together the MCU after the Kang actor was dismissed, it sort of derailed all of their plans. RDJ as an actor is super popular, and from what I read he's the reason the Russo brothers are back as well to direct these movies.

Good suggestion. At any rate, considering how Downey played Iron Man, I'm sure his Doom will have his mask off as much as possible.

This news makes want to dig out that Ironman comic where he and Doom time travel to Arthurian times and hang out with Merlin. Mainly cause it's a pretty great story with those two.

There were two of those—the second had Merlin as a cyber-punk type character

I know the MCU can have more than one thing, but I wanted Doom to be well done this go-round, and instead, this feels gimmicky. I hope I'm wrong and there is more to it, I like everything else going on with the FF that I've seen.

I think Doom should have his own movie, just called Doom or somesuch. Just throwing a big bad at us in one movie and expect the audiences to be engaged isn't the way to go. Thanos at least had small build ups over multiple movies and honestly felt threatening to our heroes. The "threat of the week" concept while ok for pumping out new content but wastes so many good villains.

Think about how many awesome Spiderman villains that were used once and tossed aside. Ultron was also wasted, Mandarian etc.... just sad but I can hope for the best.
