    What the heck?

sorry if this sounds racisit it's not my intent, but I'm tired of hollywood changing things around for established characters... now they're making Heimdall black and his sister's going to be white... i'm sure this guy is a great actor and all that but come one...it was the same thing for Jimmy olsen, they change one characters race only to invent one??? why couldn't Chloe have been black?

    here's the announcment...
Another day, another cast member for Kenneth Branagh's Marvel Comics blockbuster Thor. Earlier this week: The Warriors Three (Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson and Tadanobu Asano). Today: Heimdall, who'll be played by The Wire and The Office (Us) star Idris Elba.Heimdall is the brother of Sif (Jamie Alexander) and the guardian of Asgard, who stands sentry on the "rainbow bridge" Bifrost, the only way in or out of Chez Odin. He's super-strong and super-fast, and has super-senses that allow him to hear Earth from Asgard (and indeed "to detect the fluttering of a butterfly's wings a thousand worlds away"). He wears excellent armour, and likes an edged weapon, especially his enchanted sword that allows him to assume mortal form.Weirdly, for someone on the same side, he's given to battling Thor. In his earliest appearances he battled Thor to prevent him entering Asgard, then again to prevent him leaving, »

I don't recall a black Jimmy Olsen. Which version was that?
I don't know enough about Thor's supporting cast to know whether or not this bugs me yet. I like Idris Elba though. If he's armored, maybe it won't bug you as much as it does now.

Jimmy Olsen was black? Don't you mean Pete Ross?

I agree though....sounds a little ridiculous...they shouldn't try to be all politically correct with the casting of Asgardians. The Asgardians are the Gods of the Norse, so it only makes sense that they be caucasian, not black or asian. It's just geography.

        Hmmmm....

Same reason they always tack on a love story and a carchase: they figure it'll attract 1.6% more viewers.

The cast is getting to sound too large also.....there's not gonna be enough screen time to do Thor, Donald Blake, Jane Foster, Sif, Loki, Odin, Heimdall, Fandrall, Hogun, and Volstagg justice IMO. And tell the backstory/origin of Thor as well. I could be wrong....hopefully this is done well...but methinks 'twill be a hard sell for the mainstream audience. It has a Lord of the Rings like scope, but Thor and his gang are not as well known as the characters of the LOTR trilogy. LOTR is required reading in many junior highs....Thor is not.

I was getting ready to book an appointment with my optometrist to get checked for color blindness. Now I feel better.

I'm with Anthony on this one. The producers and writers are introducing too many characters to allow for any real character development. Unless all of these stars are prepared to accept bit roles in lieu of future films allowing more time.

Y'know.... there's been a lot of that with the last few superhero outings. I wonder if the producers are doing it on purpose, to get as many marketable characters out there as possible 'cos they expect a superhero mass media crash and they want to milk it as much as possible?

I was just happy to read that Heimdall had been cast. This means we'll get to see a (hopefully) kick *** rainbow bridge.

Sometimes it works..., but most the time it does not. There's enough actors in Hollywood to type these characters in thier respective correct Races.

Kingpin in Daredevil worked, I didn't mind him being black, but Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent in Batman? A black Two-Face just wouldn't work

Well, here's a dumb question...what about the Green Lantern? Isn't there a black version of that hero? That confused me.
