    60s Batman series: Mr. Freeze

Jessica's latest head sculpt (See customs in progress), got me thinking...we've talked about which Catwoman we prefer, well, what about Mr. Freeze? Do you like George Sanders, Otto Preminger, or Eli Wallach? I like George Sanders, myself. I especially like the way his hideout was (w/ the different adjustable temp zones). I'm missing Otto's ep, (but watched it on YouTube when it was up), and just watched Eli's ep last night. I find it interesting that the villain got progressively more "comic book" as the series went along.

So, which one do you prefer?
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Otto for me, just hearing him say "Wild"

^ Same here Thomas I do like the George Sanders version also though...his hideout with the blue and red zones was pretty inspired if not a tad bit campy.

The blue and red zones were actually pretty smart and they made (some) sense.
Both Otto and Eli didn't seem to have problems running around in the open, like they didn't need freezing temperatures to survive.

Sanders for sure. His Freeze had some interesting dimensions for a camp series. I wish he would have returned.

Tie between Eli Wallach and Otto. Otto had the look perfect.

I'm a die-hard fan of Sander's Freeze--a very sinister, layered performance & surprisingly bloodthirsty. Love the matte effects, too.

Wallach seems to be having a ton of fun, and he sports the innovation of the costume's "freeze" collar, so we can better see the guest-villain's face.

Bald Preminger looks the part & has a real Germanic accent, but I think his performance is pretty stiff and one-dimensional (kind of like another accented celebrity that later played Freeze poorly).

Anthony can probably verify this, but I think Zero/Freeze's comic appearances were pretty sparse until he was rounded out as a character in the Animated series. Until then, Flash's Capt. Cold always seemed to have more personality.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

I think Mr. Zero only appeared once (Batman #121, Feb '59) before he was rechristened Mr. Freeze by the TV show. And I think during the Batmania craze, he only appeared once in the comics (Detective #373, March '68). He may have also been a villain on the animated Filmation series around this time but I'm not 100% certain, it's been awhile since I've seen it.

He appears as a background character during the "Where Were You on the Night Batman Was Killed?" arc (Batman #291-294, Sept-Dec. '77). His costume is very basic and similar to the one worn by George Sanders.

He didn't get his own story again until Batman #308 (Feb. '79) and his appearance is a blatant Captain Cold rip-off.

Eventually, his costume was revamped again, and he became a Super Powers character.

Then, I think he was reimagined as part of Batman:The Animated Series and finally given a backstory by Paul Dini. In the comics, he was revamped yet again under the pencils of Kelley Jones.

It seems that he's a character that lays dormant for long periods of time and needs to have his costume redesigned everytime he resurfaces....

All of them had the freeze suits/collars to maintain temperatures in anylace other than their hideouts. But I like that Sanders could be a "cool" villain dressed in a business suit and thought enough of his cronies to keep warm temps for them in his hideout.

Loved it when The Joker fried the Super Powers version.

True, but that hardly seems convincing, I prefer Mr.Freeze with his dome on

The red and blue zones is what I think of when I think of the character on the show.
