Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans...Trigon story line, Terra story line, as well as the AMAZING Perez art and throw in the Deathstroke story lines. Head and shoulders above the X-Men.
"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see

Even though he Claremont/Byrne X-Men stuff is classic, I wasn't religiously buying it every month or hunting out the back issues I missed as I was with The New Teen Titans.I was definitely a mark for the work Wolfman and Perez were cranking out.

Wow! At first glance it's a hard call for me, since they are both such monumentally influential runs, and the game-changers for their respective companies in the eighties. It's like asking if you prefer your right leg or your left leg!

I'll have to go with Perez and Wolfman on NTT on stamina alone.

What was the Byre Claremont run? 35 issues or so? You had the Dark Phoenix Saga, Days of Future Past, Alpha Flight, Welcome to the X-Men Kitty Pryde, as the big tentpoles on that run (don't really think of Dazzler, Arcade or Proteus as too iconic anymore).

Perez and Wolfman were about 50 issues, plus three Annuals, the four issue miniseries spotlighting Raven, Starfire, Changeling and Cyborg, and five issues of the Baxter relaunch. I'd say that volume about doubles what Byrne and Claremont did. In that historical run you have Deathstroke the Terminator, A Day in the Lives, Brotherhood of Evil/Quest for the Doom Patrol, Brother Blood, Who is Donna Troy?, Runaways, Nightwing, The Judas Contract, and topped off by The Terror of Trigon. Much less memorable now seem to be Titans in Space/Omega Men/Blackfire (although this was one of my favourite arcs back in the day), Vigilante, Francis Kane, the RECOMbatants/DNAgents unofficial crossover, Mento goes nuts, The Wedding of Donna Troy, Fearsome Five, and Doctor Light getting chumped.

I'm not going to count the New Titans Who is Wonder Girl arc. I think that arc stands as a lesson that sometimes it's better not to go back to the well and leave well enough alone, as Byrne and Claremont have.

And although it's not part of the "official" scorecard, you do have to give an off-the-record nod to Wolfman and Perez managing to top The New Teen Titans with Crisis on Infinate Earths, which actually did fulfill the promise of a crossover where nothing would be the same again afterwards... unlike Secret Wars which ultimately only brought back an alien costume that became Venom, and temporarily added She Hulk to the Fantastic Four roster.

yeah it was rather pointless, the beyonder was a stupid character and they should of at least brought back an obscure past villian or hero to kill off (brother voodoo) oh well at least we got an toyline outta it. i like how marvel is commemorating the 25th anniversary like it was ever s*** to begin with.

Oh, most definitely....I know Lee and Kirby laid the groundwork but that stuff really doesn't thrill me...probably one of their weakest combined efforts IMO.

Titans was better, XMen made a more lasting impression on the public, tho.

very true, teen titans didn't have a huge hit toyline and cartoon in the 90's.

Marvel definitely milked it for all it was worth with countless X-Men spin-offs and Wolverine series over the years, whereas DC did not. Pretty much for the longest time it was "The New Teen Titans" and the 4-issue "Tales of the New Teen Titans" mini-series and nothing else. Even when they went "Baxter" it was still just 2 books, and of the two "Tales of..." became a reprint. So there wasn't tons of Titans material out there.

If NTT was created at Marvel, they would have spun Deathstroke off into his own mini or series, right off the bat...

Oh..and there was a handful of Titans cross-overs back in the day, whereas the X-Men seemed to pop up everywhere and anywhere in a given month....

I'll says Titans because it just stands out so much from the material put out after.
X-Men was good but doesn't stand out the way the same way for me.
