Favourite Comic Book Fanzines?

I think it's safe to say that many of us around here dig the Two Morrows magazines like Alter Ego, Back Issue, Comic Book Artist etc.

Any fanzines from the past or present that you enjoy? For the most part, I feel that the internet has replaced the fanzines. Were there any that was essential reading for you?

Back in the day I used to dig Amazing Heroes, Comic Book Reader and sometimes Comic Journal.

First one I ever picked up was Comic Collector. I think Comic Buyer's Guide published it in the early to mid 80s. I found them at the local Begley's Drug (now Rite-Aid). I remember seeing Nightwing for the first time in that mag, before his first appearance! It was my first glimpse at the behind-the-scenes world of comics. The local Sundry Store (remember those?) later carried Comic Feature. It wasn't bad. I had one issue of Starlog's first version of Comic Scene, and then picked up about all of the second run. By then, I had a subscription to CBG.

I remember Comic Collector, Comics Feature and Comic Scene too....I remember the excitement when I first saw the inaugural issue of Comic Scene on the newstand. At one point I had the entire first run. The 2nd incarnation wasn't as good....

Hmmmm....

I was never really into fanzines. (Felt too much like they were trying to tell me what I like.) I DO have a bunch of Amazing Heroes though; they did a good job of covering non-superhero stuff and had interviews with a surprising number of cartoonists I like.

Amazing Heroes was my fav got my first drawings published in them....and Of course the Comics Journal one of the best reads......

I enjoy selected issues of Back Issue (depending on their features that issue).

Alter Ego & Back Issue are the ones I probably read most, although I don't get them on a regular basis. I NEVER, EVER, buy Wizard- the TMZ of comic books. And mainly about movies & video games anyway. Does anyone take their price guide seriously?

In the day I liked The Comic Reader...wow, remember when that was the only comic news you ever got? When those little insider rumors like "DC is cancelling Weird War Tales" or "Ross Andru is doing covers for Adventure Comics" was breaking news!

Later on I liked Amazing Heroes (where I liked the Hero-History articles).

Now I primarily hit Newsarama & CBR online for comic stuff news.

I always liked the ones with longer and more in depth interviews like Comics Interview or the Comics Journal.
