Archie can't make up his mind... Who didn't see this coming?
And what's up with Stan Goldberg's artwork? I know he's a better artist than that....or is that the new "model" for the Archie characters?
LOL, on the same wavelength again bud. Before I even scrolled down that's exactly what I was going to comment on.
They look terrible. Maybe he's getting too old to draw well? Pop Tate looks ok and Betty is passable but the rest have weird, distorted faces.
I noticed this happening during the 90's.

I agree...I thought Goldberg's art on #600 was pretty ...off to be tactful. I like Dan Parent's art- looks classic bt modern at the same time. Met him a few times at local cons, and he's a great guy!
That art blows. I used to love Archie comics in the 70s. Think I still have a couple pocket digests laying around. One in particular was about superheroes. Is this another Who shot JR?
Keep in mind they are attempting to draw Archie and co as adults in this storyline, so they would be "off model" from the traditional Teen look.
I'm thinking the gradient colours also give a suggestion of dimensionality that most aren't used to with the traditional flat color Archie look of the past.
Dan DeCarlo passed in 2001. He really defined the look of Archie. It doesn't help that they keep changing the look around trying to find a new market share. The current artist's are just different than we've become used to.

I just picked up Archie #600-602.....couple of things:
The bad.....
1) The artwork by Stan Goldberg and Bob Smith is inconsistent. The characters don't look the same from page to page. The covers are drawn in the more traditional style and for the most part are on model...but once you get to the interiors....Bleech. Archie and Veronica are the worse of the lot....Veronica doesn't even look like Veronica IMO. Especially when you compare her to the covers and the ads running throughout the book. And Jughead seems to be eyes wide open all the time now.....
The good......
1) It's a decent "What If?" kind of story, with Archie walking the wrong way down Memory Lane which results in an alternate future. Starting with #603, he takes the other path in the fork in the road and we'll see what happens with him and Betty.
2) The price...I commend Archie Comics for being able to hold the price down to $2.50 as opposed to the $3.99 that Marvel and DC are regularly charging these days.
3) There's an ad for an app for your phone for Archie Comics...to quote: "Dudes! Never Roll Up Your Comics Again!". I think it's cool to see them giving young readers another option. It shows that they are much more progressive than Marvel and DC. Yes those companies have/are doing some limited stuff on the web, but the hand-held device is the way to go I think for the younger crowd who always seem to have phone in hand. Would they be in to Archie Comics though? Not so sure.... Would I use it myself? Probably not, as I prefer the hard copy version.
