This is sadly the norm because people keep letting them change whatever they want and keep buying theatre tickets and keep watching the shows so they are totally justified in changing things.

I've been complaining about the same thing for years and it has only gotten worse. If people want to see faithful versions of the characters they love, they need to stop handing over their money for the unfaithful versions.

Actually, I was OK with the preview for about the first minute. And then . . .

I don't mind re-dos if they capture the spirit or flavor of the original (Dark Knight, '78 Superman) -- but change just to make it "cool" -- see WB's Tarzan and Lone Ranger for why that doesn't, er, fly.

I was more or less ambivalent of the trailer up until he made fun of the classic suit. Now, I wasn't really liking it up to that point but had honesty expected far worse giving Sci-Fi's track record on re-imagining things to the point of being unrecognizable from their source material just to make them "hip," "trendy" and "edgy". Okay, that new suit is just hideous, retched, god awful and just downright stupid looking. And they poke fun at the classic costume!? That takes some nads given the absolute ridiculousness of the re-imagined abomination.

Ever since "Unbreakable" it's been unhip to have superheroes in superhero outfits, and I've noticed there's usually a scene like this; where they either exholt the virtues of the new outfit or the stupidity of the old. (Remember "What would you prefer, yellow spandex?" from the first X-Men movie?)

I HATE stuff like that 'cos I think the worst sin entertainment can commit is intellectual inbreeding; and when you approriate something and START by dismantling part of it's iconicness you edge really close to making the same old same old. Superheroes wear tights. Yes, they're a stupid idea but that's how it works. The flashy costumes separate them from everyone else, which is the point of a SUPER-hero. That's what makes 'em iconic.

So.... doesn't that cancel the point? Isn't he the protector OF the jungle? I know in "Phantom 2040" he wasn't in the jungle; but that's 'cos there WAS no jungle any more. Which makes him Purple Batman. (MOVIE Batman, since comic Batman still doesn't wear armour.)

This was announced a while back. No doubt put into motion by Magician movies such as The Illusionist and The Prestige.

I love the phantom but this is more crap on the Scifi chanell (i don't care what they call it) . That network sux so bad I removed it from the favorites on my cable box ( along with all the Lifetime channels) so I don't have to see it when I flip by
