Does Wolverine need a teen female sidekick?

So over the years writers have explored the fact that Batman needs a Robin.

In some ways it seems like often Wolverine as a character seems to "work" better when you pair him up with a female teen.

We saw the early magic when they introduced Kitty Pryde to the X-Men, and I think part of the problem with the Kitty and Wolverine Miniseries and her becoming "Shadowcat" was that it did mark a kind of coming of age for Kitty, and changed their dynamic somewhat.

    Jubilee of course.

who practically co-starred in his ongoing for a time (during Larry Hama's run I think).

Just to bring the Batman/Robin comparison closer...

Wolverine and Rogue from the X-Men movie.

And most recently Armor in the pages of Astonishing X-Men

Loved this issue where they reversed the roles

Hmmmm.... I think characters like Wolverine work best when teamed up with someone; not neccessarily a teen sidekick. Wolverine is supposed to be the angry, detatched, sometimes angsty/sometimes smartassed, (depending on who's writing him) iconoclastic character. You need someone for him to play off of, so as to display them qualities. A sidekick allows you to show his befuulement as he displays concern despite himself. A straightman like Cyclops allows him to display his independance. On his own he's a guy who fights a lot.

I think you see the teen sidekick thing so much 'cos the 80's are where most folks' conception of the character comes from, and that was the Wolverine/Kitty era. So you're getting that story over and over. Case in point; Rogue in the movie ISN'T Rogue, she's more like Kitty.

Wolverine needs to be a loner PERIOD....that means no teen sidekicks, no sons, no being on every freakin' team imaginable as well as guest-starring solo in 5 books a month....Seriously, the character has been so watered down by being so popular it's hard to take him, well, seriously.

Agree! Seriously Wolverine was an Incredibly cool character at one time. The only time I liked Wolverine with a partner was with Nightcrawler. I always thought they played well off each other.

Other than that I also think Wolverine has really been watered down too much.I hate when they try to make him a likable character to sell toys and stuff.......I like when Wolverine was the one you didn't mess with.He was the member of the X-men that did the dirty work. I liked the edge he once had......now he's a bit played out........

I never really realized this before ....
with X-23,.. He actually has yet another young Female sidekick in X-Force,.. because he is really protective over her in that book, & always has been ....

Whatever happened to Jubilee anyways ? ... I know I scene something about 5 yrs ago,.. where she was on one of the X-Teams in a Different suit,.. but have not scene her since,.. but I only really read X-Force & Cable,.. so I dunno where she is.

He has family issues, and needs someone to care for, to justify his tortured existence.

Jubilee left Wolverine's title and the main X-Men title when they launched Generation X. Last I heard they depowered her after the events of House of M.
