Weren't annuals always stand alone stories? This year all of Marvels have been nothing but previews for up coming stores. ***? That's worth $4? I don't think so, I'm so close to pulling the plug on all my marvel buying. I'll keep my subscriptions but no more extra issues

Surprised they even do annuals any more. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie Banks -
Annuals have sucked IMO for quite some time.....I hated all of DC's "event" annuals from the last oh, ten years or so....like the Elseworlds ones or the Pulp Heroes ones.....there used to be good stand-alone stories years ago in annuals but I can't think of a stand-out in a long time.....Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!Comment

the last time I remember really good annuals was bask in the Byrne FF days, he did several that were outstanding and tied into regular FF continuity. The old Claremont XMen ones were usually pretty good, too.You must try to generate happiness within yourself. some of my favourite Annuals!
Back when Art Adams used to do the X-Men Annual a few years in a row. Loved this storyline that began in the New Mutants Special (which doesn't make much sense to me... shouldn't it have just been the New Mutants Annual?!)
Mike Golden Art, Spiderwoman, Ms Marvel and the first appearance of Rogue!

I think Alan Davis drew this Battle Royale between Impossible Man and Warlock.
Also loved it when Warlock teamed up with Spidey.
Marvel is seriously missing the funny these days.Comment

I actually liked DC's Elseworlds and Pulp Heroes annuals.Read my blog at Moongem Comics about comics, toys and more.Comment

The most recent Ultimate Spiderman Annual, where Peter has a discussion about how he'd like to "get some".
The Ultimate Hulk Annual where Hulk does "get some".

The shining beacon in an otherwise crap-tacular Annuals crossover. Bloodlines was supposed to jump start dozens of new characters into the DCU, and Hitman was the only one with any kind of "legs". Props to Ennis and McCrea for actually being able to capture the spirit of John Woo thinly disguised as a superhero book.
Hitman's poncy little scarf on the other hand, never made it anywhere near to issue 60...Last edited by samurainoir; Sep 28, '09, 2:28 PM.Comment

Wolfman and Perez made their NTT annuals count. The big payoffs were always in the annuals. The Tamaran War arc, the coming of the Vigilante, and of course, the finale of the Judas Contract!
DC had some great annuals in that era. The DCCP annual with the Earth-1 and Earth-2 Supermen (introducing Alexander Luthor Sr. and setting up Crisis to boot) is a classic.
Much unappreciated is the Mike W. Barr/Trevor Von Eden Batman Annual where he Ra's Al Ghul tried to make the sun a weapon to destroy the majority of the population. The ending has one of my favorite Batman/Robin exchanges ever, I still remember it:
Robin: "Yeah, Batman, you lost the girl, but you saved Gotham, and the whole world! Doesn't that count for something?"
Batman: "No, that means everything. C'mon chum, let's go home".
Says it all right there.
