I suspect they're caught in a weird feedback loop. Since "Blackest Night" seems to be doing so well we can expect clones for the next couple years. I kinda suspect "Blackest Night" was inspired (or at least suggested) by the buzz from "Marvel Zombies;" and "Zombies" a culmination of the hype for the last "Living Dead" film and press that the "Walking Dead" comic got.
If only "Deadworld" coulda held out a decade or so longer....
I read the like 5 page intro to this..., I think in the Back of X-Force..... I didn't realize it was the Yearly X-Book(s) Saga collect all 30 issues to read it all,.. maybe more now, with all the tittles,.. & I didn't get that Black Queen was raising the dead either...., but there is someone Hanging with Her,.. that Can Control the Dead,... & Then Resurected The Dead Mutant Caliban Recently,.. & they are using Him to Track other Dead Mutants..., I didn't realize until now,.. that this was a Possible Zombie-Ish Story.
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.
The X-Universe isn't even a blip on my radar anymore.....I have no idea what the heck is going on anymore....Funny considering I used to be a BIG X-Men fan what now seems eons ago....
Think OUTSIDE the Box! For the BEST in Repro & Custom Packaging!

Loved the original Deadworld! I think they have attempted to revive Deadworld quite a number of times over the years, but I never thought it had the same kind of magic without Vince Locke's artwork.

Definitely.

It's kind of a mixed thing. It's durned tough to come up with a new take on the zombie thing; and Deadworld did a decent job. For a while. I kinda gave up when the group got stuck in that city with the bald guy running things. Seems like most zombie stories have that plot. Loved King Zombie though, and the Gracken.
King Zombie is awesome! It's the element of DeadWorld that would seem to differentiate it from all the other Zombie stuff out there, that they actually had a Big Bad running around.
I think we're getting both as flip sides of the same coin. (It's undead-o-rama folks!) The differential is wether you're doing a drama or an action story. For action it's hordes of zombies. For drama it's wimpy weepy post-Rice Vampires. They'll both fizzle at the same time.
