    SUPERMAN/BATMAN: PUBLIC ENEMIES discussion

Hi guys---I'm thinking I'm one of the earliest people around here to see this
new DCAU movie---so I'll keep my first post review spoiler-free and relatively
    brief.

I think this one was the most fun to watch out of the few DCAU movies I've
    seen. (I haven't seen NF)

I guess that means it was my favorite over WW and GL:FF.

I do see some flaws in it tho'. It seems to have a challenge keeping a more
consistent "tone" than the other ones. At moments it feels real goofball
simplistic in the dialogue or plot points
---still, positively, it retains a lot of the class and depth
that the other DCAU stuff has had in tone----and it certainly bears
a resemblence to the Timm/Dini stuff writing-wise and of course with the casting.

One of the more bizarre yet fun parts of S/B:PE was all the cameos
    by DCU characters.

All in all, as I mentioned before, I really liked this a lot but I still think
most of the Timm/Dini long episodes/movies are quite a bit better than
anything that's been part of this recent DCAU series of movies.

New Frontier you have to see and it's the only one that is as good as a TIMMVERSE tv multi episode arc

I agree that of the other direct to video WB dc's I liked the extended BAS, SAS, JL, or JLU's better.

I don't know. So far, I've enjoyed all the animated DCU movies that have been released so far. But from what I've seen in previews and clips, I have a feeling this will probably be my favorite of the DCU animated movies. I have the trade paperback novel of Public Enemies, and oddly enough, I could hear the voices of Tim Daly, Kevin Conroy, and Clancy Brown in their roles when I read it. SO when I heard they were all three cast to reprise their roles, it was like a dream come true for me.
      Cheers.

New Frontier was good But, Over rated imo. A big , big lead up to a Battle that only lasted 5 minutes, & a hr & a Half loose based Origin Hal Jordan Story. I thought I was watching a Super Hero Movie with too much story of Nothingness, leading up to 5 minutes of the character actually being in costume. & Batman's Voice Sucked Arse. A Good Toon,.. But reading the Book was Better imo.

You Know,.. 1 Thing is for Sure. Pubic Enemies Should Blow Superman 3 Away.

I do Hear Conory's Voice in my Head when I read Bruce in the Comics. I look forward to that again.

          I dunno---but I certainly prefer it to Nolan's superhero offerings. ha---ha.

it's still funny that BOTH our biggest criticism
is pointed at the uneven "tone" of the flick.

In the end though, I'm thinking I liked it better than that reviewer did.

Yeah. They didn't seem to like to too much.

I get the impression it's a problem with adapting a comic; especially one so grouned in upcoming stories.

I enjoyed it, but there were some ridiculous pieces here and there. I liked the animation style, except for the anime-esque exaggeration of PG. I think of her as Alex Ross draws her, not as a stick figure with a pair of basketballs. I can't say much else without spoiling it for those yet to see it.

I can't resist saying I find the stick figure type sexy as hell with or without
the basketballs (albeit the basketballs being something I think
a "genuine" PG needs)---sexy in a cute demure way which I'd like
the majority of the "super-strength" females
to be...hey, it lends irony to the character to boot.

Ross already draws Zatanna "thick"---that's good enough for me.

The review seems to echo my problems with the original comic, it had some clever interplay between Superman and Batman but it seemed like an excuse for big fight scenes and the plot was nominal at best.

Bri---The thing that validated the "big obligatory fight scenes" between Bats/Supes and their opposition(s) in the actual flick for me were the
twists that kept capping them off---none of which kind of things
I noticed (or maybe "cared" to notice) in the GL:FF flick.

I haven't seen the film and I'm not saying that they can't make an entertaining film out of a weak comic, it's very possible.

The GL film didn't have oodles of twists but I found the story coherent and entertaining, I'm curious to see if I feel the same about public enemies.

I think that sums up my feelings about Loeb's work in general. He has great bits strung together by very week plots. His enthusiasm gets his stuff over more than it should, and he also pairs himself with the best artists, see "HUSH".

I think this will be a fun, mindless slobberknocker of a movie, and I can dig that.

The book was almost like an Extreme Tough Guy who Likes Tough Movies done to the extreme with Super Hero's,.. & with the Plot, they had some sorta all out "Who's Who" lets throw as many Super Hero & Villians in a Story & let them Gun for Superman .., There was some really well done written aspects of the book to me,.. Like was said in the Trailer, it was kinda the 1st time you Had a Book ( atleast what I have read in my time) where 2 characters, ( or again, atleast Batman & Superman) where in the same panel,.. on each given page, you were reading what Batman Thought,.. then you were reading what Superman thought,.. About each other, what was going on, what to do, & how they knew what the other person was going to do next, or guessed what they would do. For me, reading that when the issues 1st came out,.. Man, I just loved it. ... There's a couple of Twists that are entertaining as well, that you don't see comming. I dunno How Faithful they are looking to be with the Toon Movie, But I look forward to it.

To Me Loeb is a Very Fun Writer...., His stuff is easy reads Sure, But it's fun to read with your Kids too. A Lot of people complain , saying "comics are not like they were, or where's the "Balance" of the Kiddie Stuff" & Yada,... Loeb Brings that stuff to most of His writes imo. I am having fun going back & reading some of his Superman Work,.. before the Batman/Superman stuff right now... He actually does have alot of good writes & Plots,.. I am in the Middle of Emperor Joker right now,.. & that whole Idea was Brillant imo. My Son really likes alot of his Work,.. we both are really enjoying the Red Hulk Nonsense right now.
