Who should be DC's New Publisher?

No announcements yet, but who do you think should get the Big Chair that Paul Levitz is vacating?

My first thought was Karen Berger seemed like a candidate, but is she too mired in the world of trenchcoats and muddy colouring?

Jolly Jim Lee? Or do we prefer that he get chained to a drawing board?

    Dastardly Dan Didio?

And does anyone know who Hank Kanalz is? Best known for Co-Creating Youngblood with Rob Liefeld?!

Not very likely, but howzabout Mark Waid? Currently in the Not As Big Chair at Boom.

Mark Waid would be perfect for the job. Things would definitely lighten up if Waid took over.

I've championed Bruce Timm for a long time. He'd inject a lot of new creative energy into the comics. Plus, everyone in the biz respects the hell out of him. You'd have guys crawling out of the wood work to work for him.

Len Wein would be a great one too. He should have been moved up the ladder at DC in the 80s for galvanizing the Wolfman/Perez team, and Moore's Swamp Thing.

Wasn't Len Wein one of the Spinal Tap Drummer EIC's at Marvel back in the eighties?

Although so was Archie Goodwin, and I'd pick him if he were still around.

I like both of those choices Chris!

        How about Jeff Loeb?

I think Jeph Loeb is still under contract to Marvel....

I prefer Mark Waid, but Len Wein is a good choice....anything but DiDio....If Geoff Johns wasn't as necessary as he is as a writer, I'd say he'd be a good candidate too.....

Yes, but you can't really judge him, or any of the others of that period on that. Essentially the job had outgrown being able to be run by one person, but Marvel kept trying and driving everyone off (Wein, Conway, Thomas, Wolfman, Goodwin). When Shooter came in, they gave him a whole staff.

If Geoff Johns wasn't as necessary as he is as a writer, I'd say he'd be a good candidate too.....
He could still do both, at least keep him on GL. I'd like to see what he would do.

Waid would be great as long as the new Warner involvement at DC is taking into account the long history of the comics and the characters. Timm would be a good choice to, as he knows the production side of things as far as TV goes.

I love the idea of Waid jumping on board as publisher. He's got a grasp of what comic readers want and has a huge amount of respect for the industry. He's a no-brainer.

However, I'd also like to see DennyO'Neal in there as well, though he may be out of the game too long to remain relevant.

Cool thread. I'm sure nothing will go as we expect, but it'll be interesting.

That was pretty much the Only Name I came up with reading this thread.
Growing up reading comics in the 80's,.. His Name was stamped on Everything I bought, or was bought for me. I remember enjoying damn near everything I read too.

I think O'Neil is past his prime and I'm not sure he ever really had a handle on the DC Universe as a whole....he was pretty much isolated to the Bat-Universe for the longest time....his early 70s attempt at Superman just didn't jive

Just for kicks let's add an extra layer to the game... y'all know Dan Didio's contract is up right?

Assuming they are keeping the same titles/hierarchy, who do you pair together as Publisher and Executive Editor?

In other words, which two people would you replace Paul Levitz and Dan Didio with in this NEW DC?

Hopefully DiDio will be shown the door.....I honestly think his cluelesness the last several years is the reason behind the majority of the screw-ups at DC.....

Isn't someone from Wanker Blows gonna take the Helm anyways ? Maybe the Director or Harry Potter ?

^ Diane Nelson of WB is supposed to be in charge now but she's probably going to have someone closer to the actual comics industry reporting to her instead of being hands-on....I'm thinking more along the lines of when Jenette Khan was the President/Publisher of DC. Paul Levitz has been more laid-back than Khan was IMO....
