To tape or not too tape

    That is the question.
When bagging your comics do you tape them up? I don't mainly cause I read alot of my back issues.
Just asking cause I bought a ton(80ish) of LSH and had to bag and board them

Dude I just finished going through my back issues two days ago and bagged and boarded 200 books!!!
I tape mine.I do read a lot but have never ruined any covers at all due to tape issues.I prefer to use the X-mas wrap tape or opaque(semi-clear) tape.Never under any circumstance use the clear stuff,it sticks like glue and you will shred the bag getting out the book.
I also touch my thumb to the tape two-three times just to dullen it a bit.

I always tape my bags- and I like to load the book top first and tape the flap at the bottom.

Yeah, if you don't tape the flap down it's just a mess to flip through them. I usually use one piece horizontally on a modern comic and two if it's a giant or Silver age one.
I don't like the upside-down method. My comic shop guy does that and I always flip the ones I buy from him back upright. They inevitably get scrunched up and interfere with putting the books in well otherwise.

I don't bag Modern comics they're not worth ****.....only GA, SA, and selected Bronze age comics. The Modern comics are like mini magazines so they don't break down as fast as when they were printed on newsprint. Plus modern comics have a higher print run making them worthless in the collector's market........

Actually, most new comics have lower print runs than their GA and SA predecessors, but prior to the 1970s comics were viewed as disposable items. Most from the Golden Age were destroyed in paper drives. Also when comics were sold on a returnable basis on newstands, the returned issues — ones that went unsold — were pulped.

Once comics became primarily available through the direct market in the 1980s, most have been kept safe in collections.

Comics aren't thrown out with the newspaper anymore so they are no longer scarce. Comics lack of availability to the general public has reduced print runs and raised prices.

It's ironic that once comics began to be treated as valuable, they've become far less collectible because of their relative overabundance.

I don't tape mine. I have ruined several covers from loose tape on the bags. However, I tend to be clumsy.

I used to do that way back.
Until one day the washing machine drain line came loose.
My comics were in a closet on the other side of that wall.
Many of them had to be tossed for water damage, as the water got into the bottom of the bag.
Ones that I had that were taped on top (purchased from other collectors that way) had no damage at all.

So after that, I started loading all mine bottom first.
