DIck Sprang's final work on Batman

Says a lot about the nineties. Which I guess might have been the point of the storyline and the juxtaposition of using Sprang on the cover instead of Grimjack's Flint Henry who has handling the interiors.

I have those issues, and if I remember correctly (been a LONG time since I read 'em), they weren't that great to begin with. I think the interior art was less than stellar as well.
"It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is iron in your words of death for all Comanche to see, and so there is iron in your words of life. No signed paper can hold the iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same iron of life and death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life... or death. It shall be life."

It was a strange storyline. I think they were trying to comment on the really extreme independent comics like Faust, but now it almost reads like a scathing examination of Spawn (which had more than just a little in common with Faust). It was one of Mike McKone's earliest gigs as I recall.

Fortunately, Sprang provided some pin-ups around this time too, so it wasn't all a loss.

Yeah, it was good to see Sprang draw the real Joker, but that's about it. Around that time he did a few pin-ups as well. They were much better. That storyline left a LOT to be desired. One of Mike McKone's earliest versions I think.
