Sorry can't get past the Photoshopped Pictures that's not being an artist let alone a comic book artist......Alex Maleev relies too much on Photography and not enough on actual drawing ability.......Take a Picture then trace over it or photoshop it...that's not an artist it's a glorified tracer.......Comment

Really? Is this documented? Having just paged through his portfolio this past weekend, the process seems to be that he draws all his stuff in pen and ink first on paper, and it does actually look like normal stylized comic book line art. My understanding is that it's just the textures and shading that he adds in during the photoshop/digital phase.Comment

I always thought his comic book work looked Dull because of the Photography.
Never thought anything was dynamic about it.....
Here is a Link where Comic Inker Klaus Janson talks about the use of photo reference..... comicfoundry.com June
It is one thing to use your own photography and use it to draw from, meaning not tracing. It's another like Klaus says in the interview to invite your friends over
Take pics and then trace over and ink them.....Photography when used in comics is dull and stiff. The artist needs to have some drawing ability. Many artist in the past have used photography.....but were accomplished artist who used it to draw from not to trace over.
In Comics, Dynamics is what sells the character and gives it life. That's why Jack Kirby's Captain America is so eye Popping good. It moved towards you.Last edited by kingdom warrior; Sep 5, '09, 2:13 AM.Comment

All of this talk about Alex Maleev's "artwork" got me interested....so I took a look....The whole "motion" comic aspect was a joke. Horribly, horribly done.I've never been a big fan of Bendis' writing style and that really comes through when you have people reading his dialogue out-loud...Cheesy.
As far as the artwork.....
