Just bought a 30 issue run for $1 a book from 290 up man what great run. not too mention the Darkseid series.

was there a better run of Legion?

I'm almost done with my Legion run (#260-last "new" issue before reprints begin) and then I will FINALLY sit down and read this series. I have only read selected issues over the years. I think I need like 4 more.

That IS the best era of the Legion (after the 70s Cockrum and Grell era of course)....Levitz & Giffen were doing great stuff....I was even willing to try the "Five Years Later" concept but I think that's where the Legion started to break down and had to suffer quite a few reboots....

I'm partial to the Cockrum Grell issues too. Really liked the issue where Invisible Kid/Lad/Boy died. Loved the way Grell drew the ladies and Mon-El. I remember putting a batman cape and a Mr Scott head on my Captain Marvel figure to make a Mon-el.

good time period. i was a fan until... 5 years later. then they lost me. i don't like my heroes who have won for 40 years to all of a sudden FAIL and then be broken apart.
"Hang on Lady... We go for a RIDE!" - Shorty to Willie Scott.Best movie line from Indiana Jones & the Temple Of Doom

I speculate that Gifffen's more or less constant employment at DC for the past three decades has something to do with this great collaboration with Levitz.

The Great Darkness Saga is still a hugely underrated classic.

Bill Sienkiewicz (sp?) was getting quite a bit of attention across town bringing stylistic influences from Barron Storey or Ralph Steadman on Moon Knight and New Mutants, but you can really see towards the end of the run where the European influences started to creep into Giffen's stuff as he shakes off the Starlin influence.
