Who is more famous, recognizable, across the globe? Batman or Spider-Man?

Please...don't comment on Superman, Hulk, Wolverine, Wonder Woman, Micky Mouse, Bugs Bunny, Popeye...or any other fictional character...

...this argument is between Batman and Spider-Man ONLY.

I also don't want to hear who wins in a fight...this thread is about who is more famous and recognizable between the two.

    What says the masses?

    Batman or Spider-Man?

I think Batman is still more recognizable than Spidey....Spidey is more "current" but Batman has been around longer....he has Spidey beat by 23 years. Plus, he's been in the spotlight for most of the last 40+ years in various media other than comic books. Spidey's been a little more sporadic in the general public eye.

I'm thinking Batman...he's been around a lot longer, and so has decades of being merchandised, a good deal more than Spider-Man. And you cannot underestimate the impact worldwide of the Adam West TV series. Forty + years later and people still think comic books are pow! zap! bam! Quite a number of comic related news articles start off with that phrase in some form, including a few about the Spiderman movie. In fact, I bet somewhere today there was an article done referencing the Disney-Marvel deal that either started out with that phrase or Holy Merger, Batman! or such. no, never mind, a quick google showed me that MSNBC started their article with the word Pow!
          Anyway, I'm saying Batman.

Yup...The Pow! Zap! Bam! (where'd you get Bop? ) sound effects are inescapable when it comes to the general public's interpretation of comic books. Thanks William Dozier....

Well not scientific but I googled "Spiderman" and got 21,000,000 results.
Googled "Batman" and got 76,600,000 results.

I think the answer is Batman!

I think they're both just as recognizable, if you know Spidey you know Batman and the same thing the other way around

The google search is very deceiving because Spidey is spelled two ways...the correct one, Spider-Man...and the often misspelled one...Spiderman.

So taking that into consideration...you add 21 million for Spiderman...and 49 million for Spider-Man...for a combined grand total of 70 million...so basically very close to Batman.

                        But then...I googled Bat Man...and I got a whopping 101,000,000...

                        Never mind...

Batman! Put his Bat logo up around the world and it's instantly recognized. A spidey symbol may take a few more seconds to get for the average person.

Hec I think your question is flawed. Spiderman is without a doubt the brightest star in the marvel universe. I don't think the same can be said for batman - Superman holds that distinction despite the greater success of the last Bat film over the last superman film. We don't see news articles week in and out abou the Kane family suing for all the rights like the Siegel and Shyster (er Shuster) families
