Cool! I couldn't figure out how to post a comment, but the artwork on the SP mini-comics was definitely handled by artists who worked (or had worked) for DC. Adrian Gonzales, Eduardo Barretto, Alex Sauvik, Joe Giella, Jose Delbo, Paris Cullins, and Greg Theakston are some of the artists who I suspect worked on this series at one time or another.

The Mini Comics in the Super Powers Line were Fantastic.
It was an Outstanding Idea imo,.. You Had your Figure, & Then you Could Read About the Story as well.

My 2 Favorite ones as a Kid to read was the #2 Batman Comic,.. Where Joker Turned Gotham City into a Bunch of Mindless Joker Zombies,.. & The Batman Saved the Day, with the Help of Aquaman and a Giant Octopus at the End.

I also Really Liked the Hawkman Book,.. Where Hawkman Teams up with Batman to take Down the Penguin.

      Man, they are so cool.

It is a Shame that the later Figures Never came with Comicbooks,.. That was a Great Idea.
... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

I am pleased to say I have all the comics (as well as all the toys) it is one of the few lines I have everything for and except for a couple (liek golden pharoah) the line is really great. I am not a New gods fan but they are accuratly sculpted for the era

Wasn't Kirby himself directly involved in the designs of the New Gods action figures? He was certainly integral to the first couple of Super Powers comic book miniseries, as well as the Super Powers reinvention of the Super Friends cartoon show with the inclusion of his New God characters into that particular animated universe.

            Holy Cow! Super Powers Extravaganza!

Check out the Super Powers figures that were scheduled for the next few waves before the line was cancelled! Vigilante? Mxy! John Stewart!

            Creeper would have been awesome.

wow Blue Devil and the Creeper. have either of those actually ever been produced in any toy line? As a kid I lost interest in the line by the time the new gods figures were coming out. i picked up a few but I just never liked the playability....they are cool looking though

Blue Devil made his way into the JLU line. Creeper I think made one of the animated Batman lines. Can't remember which.

Blue Devil was just released as a DC Direct Figure in the History of the DCU line (based on George Perez's drawings?)

I have never seen that picture before, but it fills in some blanks. In 1985 or so, my next door neighbor was a designer/sculptor for Kenner. He mostly did the moving parts and accessories, but I swear I saw a dude with a fro on his desk. He thought it was a prototype of Black Lightning. They may have switched things up and went the Stewart path. THat is almost surreal to see that picture.

I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.

That Last Wave of Figures look like complete customs to me.
Some of them don't even fit right with the origional design of these figures.
I have scene the ManBat Proto ..., so that might be real,.. not sure about the Rest... There is also a Catwoman, which Her Sculpt with a Different Head , was used for the Batman Returns Line...

Other than that,.. Supergirl,.. I have scene Her too, & a Vehicle for her. Kenner wanted to market Her,.. as well as Plans for the Teen Titans if the Line Continued. There was also an Apocolips Playset.

Most of those are customs, but based on the proposal art you can look at if you check out that site.

Deathstroke and Kid Flash were pretty awesome.

If you read on the site, they debunked that Catwoman prototype that appeared in various magazines a few years ago because during the period that Super Powers was produced Selena was not wearing the Batman Year 1 costume, but the Purple Dress/Green Cape costume still.

If they were going with a Black LIghtning at one point, it's too bad that it appears Tony Isabella once more was going to get screwed out of royalties given that they were once again going with Black Vulcan instead! In an era where Kirby was getting $$$ for the New Gods action figures and Perez was getting $$$ for Cyborg (and the Luthor redesign?).

Kirby did do design work for the Super Powers toys, and received royalties from the use of his characters. He redesigned all of them (Darkseid and Desaad slightly, the others, moreso), and did some work on the vehicles too.
