I picked these up for around five bucks a few years ago at Zellers (a Canadian chain).

I think of them as fun and campy. I mean back in in the nineties it was pretty much the only way we were going to see live action versions of Daredevil and Thor. Since these were essentially back door pilots for TV series, I'm actually kind of glad that Thor and Daredevil did not make it to series, but it was certainly interesting to see what they came up with to try and translate them into a mainstream audience. Still not sure why Don Blake didn't transform into Thor... that is kind of the point of the character. "God made Man" and all that.

The original TV show worked because it held a to a certain degree of "realism" by placing only one fantastical element (The Hulk) in as a catalyst for all the drama to revolve around. So the "Fugitive" premise held fairly well all things considered, however I don't think it works as well once you start filling that particular world they have created with other fantastical elements such as Thor or Daredevil.

              Settle down....LOL
The show had an element of cheesy-ness,Did you never watch the episode where the hulk fought a "bear"(obvious man in suit) then threw him through the air. That scene oozed cheese!!!
How about when the hulk fought a gorilla in a cage(again obvious man in suit)
If that isn't cheesy then I don't know what is...LOL

I loved the show still do to this day!!!
Bill bixby and Lou were fantastic.I have all the seasons on DVD,Watch them with my son but come on lets call it like we see it here.

Did it follow the comic? No,and that's what I liked, it seemed realistic for the most part.

Lets also not forget the giant meteor show either...

Oh yeah, the Incredible Hulk TV reunion movies are easily affordable. So is the Death of the Incredible Hulk on a separate DVD, which I got for less than 7 bucks.

One reason why they were extremely cheesy, other than the lack of technology to make top notch Marvel movies and shows like today, was because Universal was not involved this time around. Of all studios to produce these movies, it had to be New World Productions, where those cheesy Roger Corman movies came from. They also produced their own unreleased movies of Captain America and the Punisher. Ugh!!!

The original TV show worked because it held a to a certain degree of "realism" by placing only one fantastical element (The Hulk) in as a catalyst for all the drama to revolve around. I agree 100 percent. The Incredible Hulk TV series had a unique formula that could not be replicated with any other Marvel comics character. Despite its cheesiness, the only things that make the Return and Trial of the Incredible Hulk movies worth watching, is the aspects of the original series that remained, such as Dr. David Banner being on the run and taking various jobs, the Hulk as a non speaking creature, and with the focus being on Banner, which could have only worked if it were Bixby in the role, and the presence of Jack McGee from the series in the "Returns" movie. He was sorely missed in the latter two. The problem is, these movies suffered seriously from lack of continuity. And I felt Thor and Daredevil were more or less, extra injections into this series that had a good formula. I'm glad they went back to basics when they did the Death of the Incredible Hulk in 1990.

                BTW, the movies are dated:

                The Incredible Hulk Returns 1988
The Trial of the Incredible Hulk 1989
The Death of the Incredible Hulk 1990.

                Cheers.

The biggest thing to bug me about trial is when banner has the beard,he Hulks out and the hulk has no beard!?!?!?!?!?
I always thought it would have been cool if the Hulk had a beard!!!

I was exposed to this TV show before any other Hulk, so for me it's the definitive. (RIP Bill Bixby)

These are fun, but like many reunion movies, the original "flavor" of the series is somewhat lost. They are definitely more "out there" than the series, which was incredibly grounded in realistic drama for a show with a green monster. I prefer the Daredevil one, despite his goofy black costume with the blindfold (let's tell EVERYONE I'm blind!). But they are both worth watching, esp. for $5!

As with many such things, I was pretty disappointed at the time, but now I think they're great. I'd actually like to see more of the reunion movies that were so popular in the late 80's/early 90's. Some of the other ones were infinitely cheesier, which only makes them that much more hilarious. The Hulk reunions were actually handled fairly well. It's all down to Bixby, though. Without his charisma and his credibility as an actor none of the Hulk stuff would have worked.

Good point. Bixby was one of those actors who lended a credibility to everything he touched. Like Michael Landon, James Garner, and a very few others. Their inherent likability made many of their projects work, where they wouldn't have for lesser personalities.

The best episode in that series was "Married". I believe that was the opening episode in season two. Still a very touching and moving story to this day. The kids saw it about six months ago and cried at the end. Kenneth Johnson's very best effort. Of course Bill, Lou, and Mariette Hartley were fantastic.
