When I first read of this, I wondered if maybe it wouldn't adapt (in part anyway) Alan Brennert's classci "To Kill a Legend" from Detective #500, where the Phantom Stranger offers Batman a chance to stop his parent's murder on a parallel world.
So maybe it's BOTH this story, and "The First Batman" that are getting put together?

I've often wondered,in the scheme of things pre-Crisis, exactly which parallel earth this should be I may have heard it referred to as Earth-5 at some point, which was never named in and of itself back then as to avoid confusion with Earth-S (what with comic book lettering what it sometimes is).

Wasn't Earth-5 the Earth that the multi-cultural League was from, that first appeared in that Legends of the DCU: Crisis special back in the late 90s?
Heck, it may even make sense. That Batman was a family man, and not obsessed and grim. Robin was his son. Maybe he was the young Bruce from Legend, grown up into Batman! The mind boggles...
