I think I love you...Sort of like knowing that Superman could tear Batman apart in a heartbeat whenever he wanted, but it's more interesting to see Batman get a couple of licks in (I do want to see Superman flex a pinky and send Batman clear across Gotham at least once, just for some payback from all the times he's gotten his keister kicked though).

This is not meant for a Rant,.. of any kind... Just trying to have some Fun & get peoples thoughts on the Subject .. as a VS's thread. & Throw out some Opinions I have about Spider-man in my Posts.

Well said Don!
Still don't see how Batman kicked the Hulk in the gut and got him to breathe in bat gas.

>Don't even get me started on that Far Fetched BS that we are Lead to Believe this guy Just Magically showed up one Day,.. & with no Prior experience Sewed that suit Flawless for the 1st time touching a Needle.
But.... getting a magic ring from a dying alien who's part of an intergalactic police force is LESS far-fetched?
>but Peter Parker's real-life problems make him easier for a reader to relate too.
That was the idea. Marvel started the "heroes with problems" schtick. It was a novel approach that was MEANT to make the characters more.... well, REAL isn't the word.... more empathizable. DC characters were always icons. Due in no small part to their being the superhero prototypes. DC heroes didn't deal with doubt, or the bills, or having to go to the bathroom. They were (and to a degree still ARE) above those sort of things. They're gods. Even a "normal guy" like Batman towers over mortals. (AND the laws of physics.) At the core, this is the difference between both casts of characters. And neither is superior to the other. They're both perfectly valid, and can potentially be incredibly entertaining.
But folks need a "winner;" a dominant idea, the one paragon of the genre. It's cyclic. The dark, gritty, street level hero is kinda overwrought these days, so folks are moving towards the old school larger than life hero. (Having fallen out of fashion for so longit's now novel again.) Which of course means the OTHER type is poo-poo. Eventually they'll get tired of that, seeing it as simplistic no doubt; and the pendulum will swing again....
But I think it's unfair to say one is inherently superior tot he other, or more "realistic." Both the magic alien ring that can do anything but needs batteries AND the guy who gets bit by a radioactive bug gets superstrength and not Leukemia are equally implausible.
>it's unfair to compare spiderman to GL
Only if you don't take into account the superheroism that when two heroes clash, they'll SOMEHOW be overall equal to each other. Thus can Spiderman contribute to a caper with Superman, and Batman kung-fu the Hulk into submission.

Um...no that's not how it started. You asked if anyone was reading Green Lantern these days.
I posted, no, I'm not, but I bet you're not reading any 70's Romita Spiderman either are you?
And then you went into the GL vs. Spiderman rant.
THAT....is how it went down.

Yeah, as you said BK, Spiderman is the "Mickey Mouse" of comics. I mean you see him EVERYWHERE. Whereas GL is clearly the better character with a better story line and history to match.
I have said for years "Make mine Marvel, but it seems unless Pak, Loeb, Straczynski, Millar, or Bruebaker (With the ecception being "Rebirth" thanks for jacking the story up Joe Q.
) is writing I can't seem to enjoy Marvel anymore.
D.C. is bringing out obscure characters both heroic and villian and raising the bar on levels Marvel WISHES it could. The so-called "House of Ideas" has been running out since the 1990's. Hulk has been the only comic I have faithfully kept up with. But if Bendis gets to writing him, oh boy...........
but back to the sub, Johns has really outdid himself with the Blackest Night setup, and Morrison has as well with the Batman and Robin stuff. It's all so fluid now, the time lines match up, and stuff is really getting interresting with GL, Johns sold me on his projects, don't get me started on Spiderman and the follies of what they have done to him...............
Lee Harrah of sector 2814 has spoken.

Again,...
It was Brought to Me as a Comparison Twice Now.
I didn't bring the Comparison idea to my head,.. it was brought there for me,.. I only posted it here.
Since the 2 Spider-Loons brought the Comparison to me,..
I thought I'd share.
And when you Really Know the Mythos & the Idea of the Green Lantern,.. & then the Idea & Blantent Idiocracy of Stan Lee's Spider-man That is really a Tounge & Cheek Character on Many Levels.... Yes,.. you are right,.. there is No Comparison,... Green Lantern is & really always has had the Ability to be a better comicbook character,... His Marketing was always just put on the back burner,. & Sucked..., next to the Big 2. But Obviously,.. Finally we are seeing what can be done,... If ofcourse, they don't mess up.

I love GL (obvoisly I am patrial to the original) but it's unfair to compare spiderman to GL. The ring is a nearly omnipotent deux ex machinea. It gets changed to meet the desire of the writer to give gl the driver for the story. GL's book has come and gone many times over the years (hence wood weakness became yellow which is now no weakness but rather a weakness in the mind of the wearer - whatever flats the writers boat). GL had lots of lame villians before sinestro became a primary (he used to show up about as often as the JSA did in JLA). I love Hard travelling heroes but that was a taglong after marvel opened the door to address the social issues of the late 60's w xmen and racism
Spiderman was the first superhero to have real problems to correlate his issues with the kids reading it that was geniusLeave a comment:
