They don't need him if they already have Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man....

I love Samuel Jackson. I'm not even opposed to him being Nick Fury. But, I don't see where it is necessary for Fury to come within ten miles of an Avengers flick (other than the fact that Marvel signed Jackson to a nine movie deal).

The only way to do this is to have the Cap movie be set as a prequel, then the assembled Avengers find him in ice at the beginning of an Avengers movie, Cap is the team leader, and we go from there. Kinda like it happened in the book. All the streams flow into one (for the Avengers).

Presumably, they should have all of that in place since all of the entities will have had a movie before they appear in the Avengers. I thought that was where they were going with this, but this development makes it seem like they doubt the strength of the Cap and Thor Movies to bring this to a head.

Nick Fury, if he is in it, should be a secondary character in the Avengers movie. I don't like the look of the Black Widow from the new Iron Man movie (she just doesn't look right to me) and would be highly surprised if she has a role of any significance in the Avengers flick. Hank and Jan Pym need to be in the Avengers movie...'nuff said!

I'd like to see Hawkeye, but otherwise a good start.

To me and I'm going by what was said at the end of the Hulk movie, this team is suppose to be heavy hitters who can handle a Hulk situation. And I don't see Nick Fury as being able to do so. So instead of him,I think they should have Namor.

This sounds like the Ultimates where Nick Fury has a big role in the team. I always thought if they made an Avengers movie it would be like the Ultimate version which already read like a movie.

I'm Hoping Pym and the Wasp are in it and having the Hulk will only add to it.

Any word on Norton playing Hulk/Banner? I sure hope he does! He's the best thus far!

Anything that gets us more Scarlett Johansen in a black leather cat suit is good. As far as Fury goes, I doubt he's going to be hanging out at Avengers Mansion with the guys. He's going to be calling the shots from SHIELD headquarters.

It would be a mistake not to feature Giant Man & the Wasp. Giant Man would look great visually in live action. You only have to look at the fun they had on Transformers to know how good this would look.

I think they should certainly need to have the Vision by the first sequel. No Avenger Team would be complete without him. Him and the Scarlet Witch would make a great dynamic for film. I would just love seeing the Vision plow his fists through two thugs on the street. That would look so cool in the theater!

                            Avengers Assemble!

Yeah...this is probably the Ultimates version of The Avengers. But the team has always had a connection to the government or SHIELD. At one time it was Gyrich - but he was killed of in X-Men 2. I don't see Nick Fury in the field. I see him in a situation room, with Cap as the field team leader. So, that would make Cap, Iron Man and Thor, with maybe Hawkeye and Black Widow. I don't know that we'll see The Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver, simply because they're Magneto's kids. In the world of licensing, they would have no connection to Magneto except for maybe a mention, they'd be totally unrecognizable - they may or may not be mutants - or not included. I could see where they would not want to include the Pyms. I get it - I don't like it. This could probably be a pretty decent action flick...

All joking aside, the Hoff wasn't too far off from Steranko's Nick Fury. Impossibly chiseled features and over-blown monologues are trademarks of both.
