I don't think anyone in this thread has yet mentioned the obvious requirement for a "good" Hollywood/Comic movie (apologies if I missed a relevant sentiment):

FIND THE RIGHT DIRECTOR.

What is the correlating thread between "good" comic movies, compared to the correlating thread amongst "bad" comic movies? Yeah, it's...

THE DIRECTOR.

For examples...

Bad: Pitof (Catwoman)

Good: Sam Raimi (Spider-Man & Spider-Man II, Darkman)

Bad: Frank Miller (Sin City, The Spirit)

Good: Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2)

Bad: Rob Bowman (Daredevil, Elektra, Ghost Rider, Preacher... wait. PREACHER???! Noooooo!)

The director isn't the end all. Bryan Singer is also responsible for Superman returns which most people were unhappy with. It will take the right confluence of script, director and cast to make it work

Yeah; you gotta deal with the producers.... the money men.... as well. A lot of the really weird decisions and changes often come from much higher on the food chain than anyone connected with the actual production. (That's part of what makes 'em so weird.)
