The Sentry: Rick Veitch was the original artist!

And it looks like it had more of an ABC, Supreme or 1963 vibe to it.

Rick Veitch The Secret Origin Of The Sentry Part 8

I liked The Sentry series, but I think i would have liked a the version Veitch and Jenkins were working on better.

I think Moore and Veitch's Greyshirt is hugely underrated, and often surpasses the inventiveness of Eisner's Spirit, which it obviously is inspired by and rifts off of.

Basically Veitch's version would be one of those explorations of a character through different eras. That was the Silver Age Kirby-esque version.

80's Frank Miller gim n' gritty of course...

I think the 90's version is a hoot...

As much as Jai Lee's art took a giant leap forward with Inhumans and The Sentry, there's a certain charm that this series could have had if they let Veitch draw tha various one-shots aping different styles from different eras like he's done with 1963, Maximortal or Supreme.

You do get tht its the same artist goofing on the style of the era, don't you? Its Rick Vietch's original proposal for the character, that's why the different design complete with the rod that seems to bother you so much.

I like the design, any clue about the color scheme? and is there a 40's version too?

I contacted Veitch to discuss color schemes for his design. he's been very helpful. So expect a custom from me eventually.
