Recommend some good ol' fashioned WAR COMICS!

Love most of Garth Ennis' contemporary stuff. Dig Harvey Kurtzman's EC books like Two Fisted Tales. Charlie's War from the UK is amazing.
HATE most of the Charlton stuff like Fightin' Marines and Fightin' Army.

Which War Comics do your recommend? Which issues are your favourites and Why?

Who are the best Artist and Writers of Military Books?

Which eras do you prefer? WW2 stories? Vietnam?

DC's Weird War Tales... can be picked up relatively cheap and each story stands alone...
They will remind you somewhat of the old EC war stories.

There's a War that Time Forgot Showcase volume out. WW2 soldiers fighting dinosaurs. Jack Kirby's Sgt Fury and his Howling Commandos is a good one, too.

Enemy Ace or Haunted Tank...pick up the Showcase volumes.

The Kubert art on Von Hammer and the Heath art on the Haunted Tank actually look great in the B/W reprints.

I always enjoyed GI Combat (Haunted Tank) and Sgt. Rock was pretty good if, looking back, it relied too much on formula. There was also All Out War that had a Viking transported to WWII (it reads better than its described.

For more modern stuff, I'd check out Jason Aaron's The Other Side, set in Vietnam.

I thought this was a really great series in that it gave us a perspective that we North Americans are generally unaccustomed to when looking at material on the Vietnam War. I understand artist Cameron Stewart travelled to Vietnam in order to try and capture a degree of authenticity to the series.

I also appreciate The Vietnam Journal's unflinching look at the war through the eye's of a journalist, although it was difficult reading some of the more disturbing aspects.

                  Sgt. Rock, of course.

Haunted Tank: Liked the WWII-set series, thought the "twist" in the recent mini-series too distracting & obvious.

                  Weird War.

Never got around to checking out Enemy Ace, want to though.
Not into Sgt Fury, Nick was always a spy in my eyes.
