    Stan Lee does Manga

    Newsarama.com : Stan Lee's Ultimo in July's Shonen Jump

    Ultimo

ULTIMO represents a historic collaboration between comics legend Stan Lee, co-creator of many iconic superheroes including Spider-Man™, the Fantastic Four™, and the X-Men™, and Hiroyuki Takei, the creator of the popular SHAMAN KING manga series, published in Japan by Shueisha and in North America by VIZ Media.

The ULTIMO back-story: High above Farmless City, citizens are stunned by the sudden appearance of two floating figures. Are they human boys, monolithic robots, or something much more strange? As the battle ensues between them, destruction and devastation falls on the hapless city. One figure is Vice, and seems to be as evil as his name implies. The other is Ultimo, intent on trying to stop Vice from wreaking more havoc. But who are Vice and Ultimo really? Where did they come from? Find out in the first chapter of ULTIMO!

Wow, two of my least favorite things together. Stan needs to just go sit around and wait for his next Marvel movie cameo.

Stan Lee is NOTHING without others like Kirby, Ditko, Heck, Colan, Romita to work with and without characters like Spidey, the Hulk, etc......everything he's done since leaving Marvel has been CRAP.

Somehow I just can't imagine Stan Lee wearing dreadlocks, wearing rasta colors and listening to Bob Marley....

            What's that, you say?

            Oh, sorry!!

I thought the title of this thread said "Stan Lee does GANGA!" (ganja)

OK, move along .... nothing to see here ....

It certainly makes those early Doctor Strange comics that much more interesting!

I'm sure Ditko would no approve.

                >Stan needs to just go sit around and wait for his next Marvel movie cameo.

I always find it kinda sad how much people hate the guy. He WAS instrumental in establishing Marvel.... if not the comics themselves, then the overall early tone of the company. (I get the impression that a lot of the bridge between the fans and the company was his doing.)

....not that this forgives him most of his NEW projects.... but I don't think he needs to be hated. (Just kept away from a word processor.)

                >I thought I read somewhere's that Stan Lee said he invented Manga.

I heard it was Gene Simmons.....

Now THERE'S a book: Gene vs Stan!

Lee championed comics and crusaded like mad in the 60s and 70s to make it a legitimate art form. He became a poster child for the medium and while some people argue he did that fuel his ego, I think other wise.

I always forgive him for cashing in on his name these days, he's made a lot of people millionaires. I also ignore most of his modern work in the same way I really don't want to see Joe Namath playing football now...

My personal opinions seem to echo yours almost exactly on this subject. I don't know how much of it is age related ( I'm turning 50 next month) or what, but I still have overwhelmingly positive memories towards Stan Lee and think the industry owes him a much larger debt of gratitude for his early contributions than the negativity he's getting now.

Not really sure hate is the right word. I think most here are more sad to see how far Stan has fallen in recent years.

Me too! Just trying to focus on the positive achievements he made during the "old days" and not have them overshadowed by the recent stuf!

The only thing I dislike about Stan is his taking more credit than he should for the Marvel Universe.

Stan never created anything before he started working with Kirby and company and did little to nothing afterwards. The only credit I'll give him is he knew how to market Marvel. ...But at one time he took too much credit until Kirby opened his mouth and said his part.

Kirby was a creative force and created tons of Characters in every decade while he was alive without Stan!
