Dunno if I've brought this up, but here's a comic a friend recommended:
Billy Bat Manga - Read Billy Bat manga scans online.
It starts as a bard-boiled detective strip (of a sort....) BUT it turns out that strip; "Billy Bat" is the work of the ACTUAL main character who works as a cartoonist post WW2.
