    Movies I finally saw

    So;

I got a chance to see a couple films this weekend. (Being semi-employed offers me some free time....)

Saw "The Dark Knight." Thought it was good; but definitely not the cinematic tour-de-force so many others thought it was. It WAS well thought out, paced, and had some intersting stuff; but it all played out exactly how I thought it would, and I've seen everything in it before. But I kinda think it made such an impression on people 'cos compared to most other films it IS a masterpiece. For me, this should be the MEDIAN level of quality. There were some odd bits for me:
-The crack at the old films; "I want to be able to turn my head" was kinda funny, but given how much the current comics have been trying to ditch their pasts it also kinda made me wince. (Or is that "Winnick?")
-There was a lot of weird forshadowing in it. Lines like "Batman doesn't want to do this forever" and the "but it's good against cats."
-It still seems weird for Batman to be riding Jude Dredd's Lawmaster....
-Batman's been drinking milk, 'cos he bends steel with his bare hands in the beginning....
-A friend of mine thought Bats relied too much on his gadgets in this film, and I kind of agree with him. Although it seemed like the writers wanting to Cyberpunk him up more than being bad writers to me. (The Bat-sonar, and stucky bombs and modular Bat-tank were VERY Bubblegum Crisis.)
-The Joker was pretty good, although I think fi they combined this Joker's attitude with the Caesar Romero Joker's mannerisms you'd have the comic Joker to a tee. Batman kinda bugged me though. He sounds like he's doing a bad Eastwood impersonation. And his head is really, REALLY round....

I saw Hancock too. I thought the first half of this film was AWESOME! The idea of a burned out, drunk superhero was SOOOO weird! And done quite well, too. (The jail "and your head is going...." scene could have been right out of the Post Bros.) And funny. (The ice cream truck scene, and resulting excuses killed!) I loved it, right up 'til they got to the plot. Then it kinda slows down. And the plot was kinda stupid. It seemd like an ad hoc way to include a superpower fight.

I finally saw the last Bond movie Quantum of Solace last night. It has its moments, but for the most part I felt like it started in the middle of a already running movie, and it didnt really end. I missed the Bond theme throughout (little elements of it would pop into the soundtrack here and there to remind you what you were watching). Some of the action scenes were cut and dash and hard to follow as well.(Man, the new Bond guy likes to break glass doesnt he?)
Hopefully the next one drops all the Vesper stuff and heads for new ground. As it was, this film and Casino Royale could have been edited together (losing the slow scenes from each) and might have played better.

Man,... I saw all 3 of these,.. B.C. Being the Worse plot points of course,.. but still liked all 3.

I thought the Bond Movie was the Best one ever.
I also thought the Dark Knight was the Best Batman Movie ever, & Was amazed by How they set the Whole Movie up & How it ran like you were actually reading a Comicbook....
B.C. 's Direction was just kinda lame,.. I expected something much different when I 1st ran into the idea of this Movie.

You Guy's wanna Watch some good old Suck Arse Waste of Money Flicks,.. you Should Check out Babylon A.D. & Bangcok Dangerous. Man,...those were Horrible.

-Batman's been drinking milk, 'cos he bends steel with his bare hands in the beginning....
Just FYI, in that scene, Batman has on a "pneumatic mangler" which allowed him to bend the gun barrel and cut through Scarecrow's van. Part of his plan to spook criminals into thinking he's more than human, no doubt.

But I thought he did it bare-handed too at first. Nolan definitely goes for more realism than his predecessors, so I was glad to see it explained away.

Yeah, my friend who didn't care for the gadgets pointed that one out too.

            >Nolan definitely goes for more realism than his predecessors,

Well.... kinda. People will accept tech more than superpowers; but the Bat-Landmaster, Dredd's bike, stickybombs, pocket cellphone Bat-sonar, armoured Bat-suit.... none of these are very realistic. They ARE very cyberpunk though. Not sure how I feel about that. It's kinda like a dark, grittied up version of the Adam West Batman.

It's nice to see they're making material for "Mystery Science Theater 4000."

Most of the bat-gadgets in Nolan's movie are based on real tech that is either in development, or is theoretically sound. I'm not saying they don't up the ante a bit (they do) but it's certainly all more plausible than Schumacher having the Batmobile climb up a wall.

And Batman has been using new or near-future tech since he first flew his Bat-Gyro in 1939, so Adam West didn't really have anything to do with it.

So true. Especially the stuff they talk about on the History Channel special about Batman's gear.

                    >so Adam West didn't really have anything to do with it.

Well.... the West Batman had a weird device specificly appropriate to each situation. ("Quick, the Bat-Shark repellant!") I see some of that with this Batman. Almost every scene featured a new device; and in the end it was his gadgetry skill that saved the day, when he created the Bat-Sonar network. He didn't do all that much detectivin'.

                    >So were the Nipples on the Batsuits in Batman & Robin some new Fangled Tech too ?

Yup! They had the power to disturb and confuse his opponent. "I didn't think it was that cold out tonight.... or maybe Batman's just REAL excited about kickin' my butt...."
