Should Buck Rogers be set in a "Retro Future"?

Do you think any Buck Rogers should be set in a more nostalgic drive "retro future" as they envisioned when he was first created, where Flying Cars and Rocket Packs were considered cutting edge?

Or would you prefer Buck Rogers embrace a more contemporary forward thinking approach towards extrapolating the fate of mankind's future? Should he have to deal with Global Warming and melting ice caps, the mutant sentient Stem Cells, and the internet wi-fied directly into our brains via bluetooth?

Or do you think he should be set in the Future as per the TV show with their big hair and disco-style outfits.

Personally, I'd prefer Buck set in that retro future complete with ray gun blaster & jet pack a'la Adam Strange. But I suspect I'm in the minority commercially, and he'll probably sell better in a bleak, dystopian future. That's what today's reader expects I'm afraid...the days of a bright future as a story setting are past us I think. I'm reminded of the Jetsons appearance on Harvey Birdman and how they all almost die waiting for the moving floor to carry them across the office. They're from the future world of 2000 AD, you see, only it's now 2001 and they're behind the times, their flying cars never came to pass.
I wasn't impressed with the #0 issue, mostly because it looked like changes being made for the sake of making changes , such as changing Wilma Deering to Wynonna Deering. Granted, Wilma is an old-fashioned name, but Wynonna is just silly. And the laser-light Tron outfit wasn't much better, at least IMHO.

I prefer retro future as well for Buck and was very disappointed with Dynamite's #0 issue....once again, Alex Ross' "redesigns" are over-rated.

Yes.

Definitely, 'cos those things still are.

No.

No, 'cos that'd make it just like everything else that's come out in the last 15 years. And in the old story, by the time Buck wakes up those problems have long since been dealt with.

retro all the way, it'd have more style than the current Tron rip off look for Buck. The renaming of Wilma is idiotic and really uneeded.
