I'm probably coming really late to the game, but lately I've been picking up Frazetta's pen and ink older comic book work through reprints and am simply blown away by much of it. We all know how awesome his painted covers from the sixties and seventie on novels and magazines are, but it's hard to believe that success came so much later in his life when so much of his career was in the trenches doing comics, magazine illustrations and advertising work. On stuff like Lil Abner no less! I also didn't realize he was one of the ghost artists on Annie Fanny that was pitching in to help Elder and Kurtzman.

Pick up if you can find it his Johnny Comet strip it's collected in a book. Fabulous artwork. Frazetta was truly a master. -
Great stuff...Frank is the Master. You can pick up some cheap color reprints of his DC work from the forties on the Shining Knight. There were 2 issues released in the mid-80s you can usually find for around a buck..I think it's called the Masterwork Series of Comic art or such. First 2 were Frazetta, third was Berni Wrightson (?).
Also look into the work of Al Williamson, a friend of Frazetta's and a master in his own right.Comment

Those Shining Knights were the ones I just picked up for cheap (I have the Wrightson's as well). Also got Baby You're Really Something, the romance strip reprint.
Love williamson's Star Wars.
Nice to see the lineage to guys like Mark Shultz and Dave Stevens as well.Comment
