    70s/80s Marvel Star Wars.

Im sure this has been done here before, I have been reading thru some of these again, and they ROCK!!!!!!!
They totally blow the Dark Horse ones away.
Ive always wondered, are the Marvels considered to exist with the films?

most of them are consided part of the Expanded Universe. they are not cannon with the films. Some of the wackier stories are a little harder to fit into the continuity of the EU but there are quite a few characters that have shown up in more recent books.

Love that series and think they did a great job given the huge number of restrictions placed on them. This is a run I will definitely complete one day.

        Hmmmm....

I thought the Marvel run was really good too. They had a helluva job continuing the stories without conflicting with any of the new movies. And they added all sorts of weird stuff, which I always appreciate.

        >They totally blow the Dark Horse ones away.

Dunno if I'd say they were BETTER; but they are different. Different attitude. The DH stuff is newer, and written with the modern "must.... have.... story.... arc...." mentality. Which is FINE; but it tends to make things seem kinda small. The Marvel stories were written more episodicly, so there was always something new being added. New worlds, new characters, aliens.... Made the galaxy seem really big.

anything this isn't a film or the new CW series is considered Expanded universe. The stuff from marvel in the 70's is great but like 70's superhero comics it's writtne for a different audience than comics today. The stuff that happens in the 70's and 80's books and comics isn't considered in current stories. for example the best concept that came out of the marvel run - the mandalorian commandos and Boba fett's back story was completely contractdicted by AOTC because Lucas

I started reading and collecting the Marvel SW run just this year. So far I love it. I've pretty much quit buying any of the Dark Horse stuff. It's no fun.

I think the Marvel Star Wars stuff generally gets reprinted under some kind of banner like "Classic STar WArs" or "A Long Time Ago..." which might denote out of current continuity.

I always preferred the Star Wars Newspaper strip or the new UK produced stories in the few copies of Star Wars Weekly that I managed to get ahold of as a kid. It always felt more like "Star Wars" to me than the monthly Marvel four color stuff.

Although post Return of the Jedi, I did really dig that new female Sith they introduced as Vader's apprentice...

only problem with the new long time ago TPb's is the recolored art. modern color schemes don't work for me (but IDW does the same thing with classic Dr who too)

star wars classic is actually new material by darkhorse in the classic trilogy timeframe

It's been used on reprints as well if that is the case.

This one's definitely a reprint of Alan Moore's UK Star wars stuff...

And the original Marvel adaptations were reprinted under "Classic" as well...

My mistake I confused the other dr STAR WARS comics (the new OT era ones like issues of tales and underworld and empire) with CLASSICS.

I didn't realize there were so many Mandalorians running around the old Star Wars comics curing the Marvel days.

Just the 2 but those 2 issues created a masterful back story for Fett that was better than what lucas did in AOTC. If you don't collect figs then the price isn't worth it but I am sure someone on ebay is selling the issues or it;s marvel #68 & 69 same cover silghtly different color scheme

Did AOTC knock these out of continuity, or could it still fit in with the Mandolorians in the current Star Wars Universe.

a really great writer might find a way but as of yet they (like alot of marvel things) are out of continuity IF you haven't read these old stories yet and are planning to stop now "SPOILERS" follow (not sure a 20 year old comic plot can be spoiled but here goes)

Marvel - Boba fett is one of 3 surviving mandalorian supercommandos he was a leader (they never give a rank) along with Tobbi Dala and Fenn Shysa. They fought in the clone wars. After the war Fett was tired of risking his life for others and used his super commando armor and training to become a top flight (arguable the best) bounty hunter. Slave 1 was actually the supercommando ship fett stole when he left. Fenn and Tobi returned to mandaloria to protect their people from the empires abuse and become resistance fighters, the armor a rally cry to the people and beacon of hope. on every other planet the armor is a mark of fear thanks to boba. Darkhorse continued this timeline with Twin engines of destruction. Most of the novels wrtten before AOTC accepted this back story and expanded on it

AOTC - we all know the new back story Jango is a bounty hunter and Boba is his clone. raised as his child he sees the execution of Jango my Mace windu and decides to follow in his fathers footsteps to be the best bounty hunter in the galaxy. I haven't seen any other reference to the commandos since excluding the PS2 Bounty Hunter Game - jango is in competion with Montross another armor wearer

I still think the marvel back story was a ton better
