    Chris Claremont's X-Men Forever

Comic Book Resources > CBR News: X-POSITION: Chris Claremont

Not sure what to make of this. While it would be interesting to know what Claremont's plans were at the time, is this in fact the series that old-time fans have been longing for?

On the other hand, it is a very nice gesture of Marvel's part to give Claremont his own little sandboxes to play with, between the X-Men The End, GeneXt and now this. It always feels like that whenever he returns to a mainline X-Men title, it's always compromised by all the other X-Men launches and events around it.

I don't think it's the X-book for me, but I'm sure there is still an audience out there who would be happy to pick up where they left off.

      Hmmmm....

It's an odd idea for a comic, kinda. I think it's funny how he mentions that at the end of the book "everything is up for grabs," considering how up for grabs everything at Marvel has been the last few years....

But I think when anybody thinks "X-Men" these days, they're pretty much thinking Claremont's X-Men. Most of the really memorable plots were his, and I think what made them memorable was that the writing on the book for such a llong time was him. He had a chance to build things up, developed events naturally, added ninjas.... but nobody's perfect. Every X-Men product that WASN'T the comic has been from his era. (Usually with the currently popular characters shoehorned in.) So bringing him back is almost a no-brainer.... except that they're keeping him away from the actual continuity. (Although I could see that being HIS idea....)
