Free Avengers Comic

[Random Axe]

I grabbed this for no particular reason. To me, these aren't the Avengers. Without Cap, Stark, Vision, Hawkeye and a few other classics. This is big-time wrong to call them that.

However...

I really liked this book. THe pacing was perfect, the dialogue crisp and clever and the artwork wasn't too bad either. It was a fun story to follow through. I still don't see the need to call either team in this book Avengers, but it was a fun read.

Hawkeye has his own 4 issue mini... called Hawkeye.... I grabbed the 1st issue yesterday,.. haven't read it yet, but to me it looks promising.

Yes,.. after looking you are correct... Meh,.. I thought it was Hawkeye. ..., Might still be good though.. Like I said,.. Haven't read it yet,.. but might, or wait till I get all 4.

Clint Barton and Mockingbird are currently starring in New Avengers: The Reunion if you want your fix of "Hawkeye"...


Andy Diggle is writing Dark Haweye. Wasn't keen on his Swamp Thing, but I liked Green Arrow Year 1 and The Losers, I'll give this and his Thunderbolts a shot.

For me, this worked as a FCBD comic... brand new story and art by an "A" list creative team. It helped new readers see what is going on if they want to jump aboard either Dark Avengers or New Avengers or both. Gave them a taste of Thor at the same time. But it also remained a good read that extends the conflicts and ups the ante between the two teams for the long time reader. This issue wasn't just filler. Great character driven moments and old school punch-em-up Superhero action. This is what a FCBD comic should be.

The only complaint I have is the smaller size... does it really save them that much money in paper costs to give you a full length comic of new material at this size? It's a real disservice to the detail in Jimmy Cheungs art.

I say take it as a loss leader/marketing tool that is it and print it proper size. It's like taking it most of the way only to drop the baton five feet from the finish line. We all know that at some point this gets collected in a trade paperback anyways, so they will eventually be charging and making money on it.
