1973 Super Friends on DVD?

Hi All,

Does anyone know if the first era of the Super Friends cartoons (With Wendy, Marvin, & Wonder Dog) are available on DVD? I know all the later incarnations are, but I can't seem to find those first ones.

My kids are obsessed with the intro that I keep playing for them on You Tube and that show is the genesis of my Super Hero and indeed pop culture obsession too

Any help appreciated!

Nope. Not on DVD yet. I know filmationfan could give you more details, but essentially what is left is the first incarnation, the rest of the All-New Super Friends Hour, The World's Greatest Super Friends, and the miscelaneous shorts that were produced when the show was repackaged as Super Friends (some of which weren't shown in the US until years later).

not on dvd but you can buy them off of Amazon to download, then burn them or watch them on your pc. Itunes has them too $20

I'll defer to the experts but I thought they released those years ago? I seemed to recall reading that they weren't 100% as originally aired either. That they cut out those little "bumper" segments where they'd teach you how to make something or give you a morality lesson, etc.

Here is the official update on which SuperFriends series are on DVD and which are not.


First, addressing the issue at hand.


SUPER FRIENDS: 1973 The original series.

No. This series is not yet available on DVD. Though there is hope since Wendy and Marvin are mentioned on the Wonder Twins featurette on volume 2 of the 1977 series.
There is or was something on the original series on amazon.com. But I don't know if it's DVDs or downloads.

THE ALL NEW SUPER FRIENDS HOUR 1977:

The entire series is finally available on DVD. Warner Home Video released the entire series within a year's time span. Volume one came out in January of 08 and volume 2 came out in January of 09.

SUPER FRIENDS 1978: Episodes with the Wonder Twins,

This 16 episode series was the second series released on DVD and for some unknown reason was labled the Complete Second Season in 2005.

CHALLENGE OF THE SUPER FRIENDS: 1978:

This was the first series released on DVD in 2004. Not surprisingly. But it was oddly labeled Challenge of the SuperFiends: The Complete First Season.

THE WORLD'S GREATEST SUPER FRIENDS: 1979:

Not yet on DVD. This would be an easy release since there only 8 half hour episodes.

SUPER FRIENDS: THE SHORTS 1980-1983

BREAKING NEWS!!!! While the 1980 and 1981 seasons are not yet on DVD, Warner Home Video just announced today that the 1983-1984 episodes will be released on DVD in August and will be appropriately titled: SuperFriends: The Lost Episodes.

SUPER FRIENDS: THE LEGENDARY SUPER POWERS SHOW 1984:

Released on DVD in 2007

SUPER POWERS TEAM: GALACTIC GUARDIANS 1985:

Released on DVD in 2007 not long after Legendary Super Powers Show.

Apparently not. I'm also waiting for that news to complete the Filmation Batman shows and fill in that gap on my shelf occupied by poor recordings of those episodes.

I did find the downloads on iTunes, not sure if they are actually the '73 episodes so I'll download a couple and see.

I'd love to see the '68 Batman as well

I recorded most of them from Boomerang when they had them on. This shows really was my introduction to the Suprerheroes. Glad I didn't depend on them coming out on store bought DVD.
