    GI JOE: Resolute

    So;

I wasn't sure where to put this, but since Resolute follows the Marvel comic continuity I'll put it here. If you don't know about it; Resolute is an animated film, done in 10 parts on youtube but shown in it's entirety on Teletoon this weekend.

It was incredibly cool! If the live action film was like this I'd be real excited! Everything's been redesigned a bit; but you'll have no problem recognizing everybody. (The only big differences: Shipwreck wears a wetsuit looking costume, Dialtone is a young woman now, and Stalker has dreds.) It also felt like a military group planning and executing their mission; instead of a bunch of guys hanging around doing stuff.

The tech is a little sci-fi, but not as much as Sigma 6. More Tom Clancy kinda stuff. There are some things you might not be ready for:

-COBRA is bad news. (They manage to kill 10 million people in the first five minutes.) And Cobra Commander is a HARDCORE bad guy. Really.

-The Baroness is a real jerk.

-Destro talks like Sean Connery. Which is okay, since he's SUPPOSED to be Scottish.

-They changed the deal with Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow a bit. If you know the story from the old comic it's similar; but different. Same idea though.

-Storm Shadow is a real jerk.

-Even if you don't like Japanese animation, there's nothing better for stressing the power of a super martial arts attack.

-Seriously, Cobra is SCARY. Who knew?

-People die. Nobody's aiming for the rifles in this one. And when your HISS blows up, nobody jumps out first.

-They kill a couple of name characters.

-About halfway through you get to hear the most macho "I love you" speech in the history of cinema.

All told, if you get the chance and you're a fan of the old comic I recommend this.

I caught the tail end of it. Whoa that was hard core. Have to check the re-airing later on when Cartoon Network West has it.

        >Whoa that was hard core.

It had it's moments, that's for sure. One thing it demonstrates is that you CAN do a great GI Joe story WITHOUT changing things around. I think what killed "Extreme" and "Sigma 6" is that they were too different, and felt more like watered down Japanese cartoons than GI Joe. This one could have been made in the 80's.

....well.... if they had expensive animation, detailed designs and no fear of showing injury, death and destruction in the 80's....

And perhapes best of all; NO COMEDY RELIEF CHARACTERS!

I had no idea this was coming on and was flipping through channels dead-dog tired last night. I had to get to bed, but I watched first 15 minutes. I wanted to stay up, but I just couldn't. I'm sure it will reair. Saw the death of two big characters. I liked how this wasn't done to sensationalize, but to move the story along and just prove that things were for keeps in this one.

I agree this looks better than what I've seen of the live-action film.

          Yo Joe!

            >Saw the death of two big characters.

....and I don't think they're coming back; considering one is spread across the Lincoln Memorial and we see the autopsy of the other. (It was neat seeing Doc again. I always liked him.)

            >I liked how this wasn't done to sensationalize, but to move the story along

The whole thing was very well paced and even the gratuitous bits weren't really gratuitous but added to the story.

I'm really hoping they do more. I've wanted to see a N. American company do a serious animated action show for a LONG time now.

I MADE Myself stay Up,.. Started Sewing a suit,.. to Make Sure I Watched this !!!!

MAN ,.. Was this Awesome !

              Where to even Begin....

              Cobra Commander Was Actually,.. HARDCORE

The Violence was pretty Extreme because people DID Die & stuff,.. However imo, I wasn't nothing as the Blood Fest the recent Turok Cartoon Was..

DialTone Being a Chick,.. Made a bit more Sence to me,.. rather than a Dude with a Porn Stash.

I feel the characters of RoadBlock & Gung-Ho were Very , Very well Done. Which was cool for Me, cuz they are & were always 2 of My Favorite Joe's ..

Zartan Was very cool to,.. in that Scene where he just dematerialized... That was Bad Arse... Love the Baroness too,.. That Voice is always Just so Damn Sexy to me.

& Ofcourse Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow Ruled. Love the Sword Action,.. I didn't care for Snake Eye's look at 1st,.. been then as the show kept going,.. I really liked it,.. even more so, when he would be slashing his sword at the speeds he did.

              All in All,..
I was very Pleased with this....

there were only 2 things I disliked..

              1. The Whole flick opens up with Bazooka's Death,.. Man,.. couldn't they Have Picked someone else,.. I always liked Bazooka on the old toon...

& 2. If the color was just a little brighter,.. instead of the Dull Animation,.. I think it woulda made for a better Flick.

My only beef is why did they have to kill so many main Cobra guys? Not really that many left now.

                    >Cobra Commander Was Actually,.. HARDCORE

Yeah, that freaked me out too.

                    >The Violence was pretty Extreme because people DID Die & stuff,..

I thought it was fantastic how realistic they made it.... except that Cobra troopers still can't aim.... but even when I was a kid it used to really bug me how nobody got hurt no matter how much lead was flying.

                    >DialTone Being a Chick,..

I kinda wonder if something happened to the ORIGINAL one, and she's the inheritor of the name.

                    >couldn't they Have Picked someone else,..

That bothered me too, but it really did put an edge on things, so I can accept it. (I don't have to LIKE it though.) And it surprised the hell outta me.

                    >If the color was just a little brighter,..

I was okay with that too 'cos it made it a little less cartoony.

                    >why did they have to kill so many main Cobra guys?

There are still a lot of them left; especially from the comic book continuity. PLUS, did you count how many times Storm Shadow was hit prior to his death? I counted six, and I'm pretty sure it was SEVEN steps to the sun....

                    >when snake eyes and storm shadow were fighting to the death at the end...wow

I'm a big fan of the "make the brains fly out the back of your head super shockwave" technique....

                    >i didnt like how they "changed" the history around

Yeah, that was weird. They kept it intact except for writing the Soft Master out of it.

Snake Eye's & StormShadow's Battle Was Off the Hook !
When Storm Shadow Shoved his Sword threw Snake Eye's Hand,.. Then Snake Eye's Ninja Punched the Blade in Half,.. with the other Half still in his Hand,.. I Extremely Geeked out. That WAS great Stuff.

I am very impressed. style wise think of Gijoe meets robotech/macross. the violence (and there is plenty kids beware) serves a point - war is hard and terrorists kill people.
I was overjoyed to see it kept continuty with Larry hama's work in the comics for marvel and ddp's work too
