Well, look at the drop off in normal comic book sales.
People just aren't used to seeing comics anymore.
Either in the paper, or on the store shelves.

It's become a nitch market instead of the mainstream it used to be.

Which is a shame, 'cause my daughter loves comic books. She's not into action adventure right now, but she likes Tiny Titans and Looney Tunes. But I think the newspapers, in general, will be gone soon or a niche market themselves. I've seen my sports page in the Washington Post shrink in size, too. The funny thing is, that I'll read some of the A section, but anything that's breaking news I get from other media, so the "relaxing" sections like sports, entertainment and comics are what has me subscribing to the paper in the first place. If it shrinks any more, I don't need the subscription. Oh, and the Star Wars strip rocked!
      It's all good!

Hmmmm.... if by "normal" you mean Marvel, DC and sometimes Image then maybe.... but comics in general are doing really well these days.

Back in the day that was the idea. Those sections are often called the "sucker sheets," 'cos they're what sucks people in to buying a paper. Which is why it seems kinda weird that they've been neglecting the comics section. Do they not get that many good submissions? I guess it's possible; since the 90's most cartoonists have wanted to break into comic books, 'cos it pays more.
