Shazam: The Monster Society of Evil

DC Classics Library: Shazam! Monster Society of Evil by Otto Binder and C.C. Beck
From 1942-1944, Captain Marvel battled one evildoer after another, all of whom struck at the behest of the mysterious Mr. Mind. Captain Marvel fought his way through this legion of adversaries, gathering clues along the way to the true identity of Mr. Mind -- who, it turned out, was a super-intelligent, talking, two-inch long worm. This fanastic tale kept young readers on the edge of their seats as their hero made his way closer to his ultimate foe, with cliffhangers every step of the way in the tradition of movie serials. 272 pages. $39.99. On sale December 8th, 2009.

    Merry Christmas!

I WILL be getting this...I've read part of the MSoE serial in the book SHAZAM 30s to 70s, but never the whole thing. It was released a LONG time ago (1970S) by an independant publisher, probably before DC got the rights from Fawcett, but that book is RARE and high priced.

Thank God Classic Cap is getting some love, here and from the Billy Batson book. So funny that these classic books that DC does in the Archive editions sell so well yet they cannot see that when it comes to a regular comic book series. Same goes for Plastic Man who had what, 7 archive editions? Shazam had 4 or 5, JSA a dozen, on & on. Sgt Rock sells in archive form, Enemy Ace, etc. So why don't the regular books reflect that?

    I dunnno.

Good news about this book though. Also looking forward to the Simon & Kirby Sandman book next month.

Finalllllllyy!!! And yeah, I agree with the fact that DC can't get Cap right in the regular books, but they did pretty well with Kyle Baker's Plas and JSA is still going strong.

I have the big '70s hardcover reprint, & it's a great, rambling, fun tale. Love Mr. Mind!

The previous hardcover collection is from the 80s, isn't it? The one with the horrible printing because the publisher just took photographs of the original story and printed the book that way.

Yes, that previous hardcover was from the late 80s/early 90s or so. I remember seeing ad upon ad for it in Comic Buyer's Guide at the time. I remember it being way too steep for my middle/high school budget. This new edition sounds much better!

Yeah, I thought it was older than that but it was like 1985 I think.
