    Batman '60 Animated Series

Can anyone tell me what the 60's Animated Batman show was officially called? I'm also wondering if it's available on DVD? I used to have it on VHS along with both the 60's Superman and Aquaman series under the "Super Powers" banner.

I recently found and bought the Superman and Aquaman complete series on DVD under the "DC Comics Classic Collection" banner they've been sticking on their old cartoon shows, but I haven't been able to find the Batman cartoon anywhere.

I know there was also a Batman show from 1977 which was supposed to have been voiced by Adam West and Burt Ward, but that isn't the one I'm looking for. If you know the show I'm talking about and know where I can pick it up if it's available I'd greatly appreciate any help.

    Thanks!

    Donovan

The old 60's Filmation one isn't available yet. The lousy 70's one is out there.

The 1968 series was called THE BATMAN/SUPERMAN HOUR OF ADVENTURE.

also known as "The Adventures of BATMAN, with Robin Boy Wonder"
The Adventures of Batman and Robin on TV.com - Free Full Episodes & Clips, & Show Info
not on dvd, only VHS release was 4 episodes on the Super Powers Batman tape. There are bootlegs (i got a set qaulity about an 8 recorded off Boomerang sadly 4 stories no longer play)

Actually, I'm right here. Although I don't have as much time to post in the forum as I used to.

Anyway, the 1968 Batman cartoon series was originally called the Batman/Superman Hour or the B/S Hour of Adventure in 1968. I think they changed it to the Adventures of Batman when they aired reruns in 1969.

Unfortunately, this is the only animated Batman series not on DVD, aside from the new Batman: Brave and the Bold series. If you want the complete series on DVD, then your best bet will be finding a rare video dealer who would have it. And at this point, you'll most likely find the episodes taken from the edited Superman/Batman Adventures syndicated package from the 90's. The picture quality is good, but the sound quality is horrendous because the idiot who edited out scenes in these episodes also dubbed in another music track which collides with the original background music and is so loud that in some episodes, this extra music drowns out the voices of the characters.

I am really hoping against hope is that Warner Bros. will release this Batman series for completion as well as the remaining 1960's Superman episodes. Not all of them were released either. Plus, it would be nice to see all the episodes uncut and with the original music track intact.

Now. In defense of the 1977 series, the only thing lousy in that show was BatMite. I will admit having him in there ranks him with other hated characters like Gleek, Wonder Dog, HERBIE the Robot, Scrappy Doo, and
Jar Jar Binks. And maybe the villain known as Sweet Tooth, but that's it.

Having Adam West and Burt Ward as the lead voice overs was an asset. Plus, I felt the animation quality and the music were far better.

But in my honest opinion, both Batman cartoons by Filmation had their own charms. Each show had something the other didn't have. But still, it captured the essence of the lighter toned Batman, for those who liked that version. And In my honest opnion, I wish both Batman shows could have been sold together on one giant boxset. Now that would have been a collector's item.

                        Cheers.

WOW! Thanks a ton! That was way more info than I ever could have hoped for.

I agree that both Batman shows being sold together in one giant boxset would rock!

I hope that they do release the '68 Batman animated series and soon.
