That sounds about right. Didn't they also have a section at the Copaigue Flea Market (the old drive-in theater) on Sundays?

My friend Georges and I helped out. We didn't go to dinner but we did snack in the back room, that's where Frank let us put our bikes.

Nope. I lived in Lindenhurst, about 2 blocks away from where Frank lived with his parents.

When I was a kid I went to a store called the Lucky Dragon. When it closed up and I was old enough to go downtown on my own, I started going to the Comic Connection. After that my friends dad opened up one near my house called Brant Cards which I almost bought when he retired. I stayed with the people who did buy from him for about a year then heard about a great store called Alternate Icons. Which is where I go now.

I remember Gold Dust & Bailey's...2 of my Best Friends were regulars there...but I don't think Berto has been to Bailey's in about 6 years or so, but I could be wrong...I don't live out on the Island anymore.

Busy Bee Mall---2nd Floor near the escalator...got many really nice issues there, cheap, before it became popular...I think it used to be called Stinky's.

Yup those always seemed to be the 2 that would escape everyone...

My Mom worked for Play World near the Gardiner Manor Mall for a while, even she couldn't get us those figures!!!

As far as real comic shops go(as opposed to newsstands, drug stores, supermarkets, flea markets, etc), my Buffalo, NY shops were Weird Fantasy (closed down early 80's and turned into a record store called Apollo Records), Queen City Book Store (was too far a bike ride), Grant's Books & Comics(not bad but found better deals) and Fantasy World (put himself out of business in the 90's) for the most part.

I don't know Berto or I just don't recall him. I went to Bailey's when he first opened on the east side of Wellwood Ave. in Lindernhurst. The last time (1998) that I went to Bailey's was when he moved to the west side of Wellwood into the larger store.

Gold Dust! Owned by the Gerbasio brothers. The place sort of fell apart when the brothers got into a dispute over coins, stamps, baseball cards, and comic books. I helped Mike move his store from the strip on Sunrise Highway to the much, much, much larger store on Broome (??). Wantaugh did have a cool store but I don't remember the name.

Berto [Blue Meanie] and I know Frank (the owner of The Batcave) since the store opened in Bay Shore near the South Shore Mall...I think we were like his 3rd and 4th customer through the door.

As a matter of fact, I used to help out in the store when the weekly books came in...

While Frank was busy with the store he shared in New York [The Original Batcave] with his friend Jerry Ohlinger...the Bay Shore Store was managed by Mrs. Murray (Mother of Doug Murray-Writer of Marvel's 'Nam)

Needless to say, Berto and I were regulars (kinda like Norm & Cliff from Cheers).

...and if I'm not mistaken, we would pick-up our Mego's at Child World right next door and Play World at the Gardiner Manor Mall.

We'd also go to Heroes World in Hempstead as well as World of Fantasy in Deer Park.

Yeah, Space Traveller's - fond memories of that place. Wasn't close to my home as a kid, so always a special treat when my dad would take us and a couple of friends up there so we could spend $5 bucks on some comics.

As a kid I got most of my comics at IGA (grocery store chain). There were several flea markets in the area , so I picked up a lot of back issues there. There were a few comic book stores in Champaign IL (Funnybook Factory, The Book Nook) but they were in rather crappy neighborhoods so my mom was never too happy to take me to those. The Funnybook Factory was on campus and closed before I could drive, but once I had my license, I was driving all over to various comic stores. The Book Nook moved close to the community college I was attending, so I would head over there after class before I had to get to work to pick up my comic stash. While I was at the U of I I would head into Fantasy Realm which was 2 blocks from campus so it was an easy walk to get my weekly fix of Superheroes. I moved into the burbs of Chicago and found Amazing Fantasy in Frankfort and that was my comic source until I moved out to NW IL where there is one comic store in a 50 mile radius. I hardly buy any comics anymore.

The big store when I was in high school was Pops When Pops died his partner ran the store into the ground

After Pops was the Tattooed Lady. The lady that ran the store died of a OD.

Then I moved to the comic shop. No one died there :-)

Bailey's Comics in Huntington. That place was awesome (it's gone as far as I know). Nowadays I'll go to nearby Collector's Kingdom if I need anything. I also enjoyed Fourth World Comics, but I hated driving to mid-island. Forbidden Planet in Manhattan is also fun!

I actually started shopping at Cap's in 2000. I recall that they moved a couple of years later and then closed shop. They used to have great sales on Saturdays, sometimes as high as 80% off past issues. The only problem was that they covered the bins with boards so gamers could play Warhammer. Whenever I made the drive to Cap's I would also stop at Dreamscape Comics in Bethlehem.
I remember that Saturday night cable presentation very fondly! It started out with Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer. It was also sponsored by Rock107 and "Leader Business Systems". I'd love to see another local sponsoring of old Star Trek reruns (even TNG, TAS, or DS9).
