All out adventure action super hero stuff!!!
Its going to be the only place to find Captain Marvel and Mary Marvel!!!
So you're saying the regular DCU versions of Billy & Mary are going on hiatus for awhile, and this will be it for the Marvel Family at DC?

Then, I am so happy! It's a good thing, it really is...DC has screwed up the Marvel Family so badly in the last few years that it's a pleasure to see them go away until the disasters of Final Crisis & Trials of Shazam are forgotten.

Looking forward to this. And yes, Hoppy, Hoppy, Hoppy (and I ain't meanin' the cowboy)!!

Apparently they've been naughty and been stripped of their powers by a returning Shazam (the wizard) and have been put on the shelf after the end of the recent JSA arc.

^ So basically the whole "Trials of Shazam" was a bust and now manistream DCU "Shazam" stories are radioactive once again....shades of Hawkman, Aquaman and several others. It amazes me how Judd Winnick keeps getting work...

Well, at least they let Jerry Ordway do the finale in JSA, and that is one guy who really DOES GET the Marvel Family.

On the bright side of it, at least nobody shoved a flaming sword through Billy or Mary, and we aren't being subjected to zombie Blackest Night promos of Cap & Mary Marvel!

My new favorite phrase I created is 'Winick-Stink', by the way. The Marvel Family has it, Jason Todd has it, the Outsiders have it...'Winick-Stink'.

            'Winick-Stink'.

^ And Batman will soon have Winick-Stink as well (really doesn't matter though since he's just waded through Grant-Garbage )

What's cool About this Book...., is if it turns out Winick/ Morrison- Esque,.. We have the Writer right here at our Disposal. Get the Torches & Pitchforks ready...

JK Art,,.. I am sure it will be great !

BTW.... I liked Winick's run on Titans.... I don't think it was that bad,.. & the Jericho Story line was pretty good imo,.. much better than the 1st.. Raven story.

I think the main problem with books that get 'Winick-Stunk' is not so much whether or not the book is selling, it's that even if the concepts have some merit, they can't just leave things ride, and eventually the concept reverses gears.

Look at the Jason Todd resurrection. Was a shocker and cool when Jim Lee did it in Hush...kinda ok in Batman, still an edgy return...totally jumped the shark when they did the whole Superboy punches the wall and Jason starts breathing dirt...now the Red Robin thing...too much for too long(IMHO).

Same with the Green Arrow & Black Canary team-up book (which ruined Birds of Prey) and I hear is soon to be split into individual stories of each character.
The whole GA/BC marriage was a forced storyline, you could almost picture DiDio standing over the drawing board with a shotgun.

Winick's plotlines get too involved and seem to end up being reversed when the whim of editorial plotting blows in another direction. After all that setup with the Final Crisis Marvel Family, it seems to have been nullified within a couple weeks (Thankfully in this case!). Because it was pointless and really had nowhere to go.

I'm glad to see Art taking over the Marvel Family, and I'm glad it's out there in an offshoot of the DC comics world, where hopefully it will be left alone.
At least until there's a Crisis on Johnny DC earth and you are forced to crossover issues with Scooby Doo and Looney Tunes. Although seeing Yosemite Sam vs. Captain Marvel might be pretty cool at that.

Pretty much they should have just come out and said the reason for Jason Todd's revival was editorial wanted it that way...that's basically what the "Superboy Punch" amounted to anyway. Why not admit it as such in the pages of the actual story? That'd definitely be breaking the 4th wall.

Birds of Prey became a lost cause once Gail Simone left the book actually...it's been floundering since then and was finally put out of it's misery thanks to Battle for the Cowl (probably the only good thing to come out of it )

I think over the course of time you'll see that a lot of what Morrison set-up in FC ISN'T followed through...what works for him, doesn't necessarily always pan out when others are left to pick up the balls of his "genius"

Although I would have enjoyed seeing a Marvel Family fix by Jerry Ordway, I can understand DC feeling the need to shelf the characters in the DCU proper for the time being until they decontaminate them. After all, that's any easier approach than admitting "Yeah we f'ed up and never should have let Winick run with Trials and Morrison continue the disaster with Final Crisis".

At least we know they be in good hands with Art for the time being, for those who appreciate the Marvel Family in their simplest, whimiscal form instead of the angst-filled psychopaths we've seen of late....

wait why strip Billy? he did his best with what was given to him, stuck being the wizard at 10, gods being captured by darksied..I love the Aw yeah shazam don't get me wrong, but i had hopes the current JSA story was going to return Billy to Cap Marvel and maybe another series. I hate evil mary but that's easily fixed... sometimes i hate DC

My apologies Art for starting a rant.

This thread is a happy one for you and I didn't mean to turn it into a DC bash. Everyone back to congratulating Art on his book, which is why we are on tis thread. Be plenty of room for complaining somewhere else, so let's take it elsewhere!

                            Sorry Art.

I really do look forward to your Marvel family book, I know it will be great!

art - do me proud - i love this character but he has been done poorly recently. that whole series where he went to some alter world and came back in a footprint or something. I have tried to block it so I can't remember much.

if your series is in the style of tiny titans that would be great - this guy is supposed to be fun, a good role model, and super heroic - i know your style will bring out fun!

Captain Marvel was my favorite character growing up thanks to that live action show on Saturday morning, so I'm really looking forward to seeing a new, more innocent take than the grim 'n gritty "realistic" way he's been dealt with. (Well, except for the Jeff Smith mini, which I thought was kind of boring, actually...)

                                Good luck, Art!
